I got it off and back on.I had forgot about the screws under the battery.Well actually i didn't forget is just didn't know haha. Anyways just my luck i get the replacement i bought hooked up and i have the same problem.I can see everything but only under the light. I bought it from an ebay computer store and they had 100% feedback but i think i might have just got a bad one.Hopefully they will refund or send me another one...Anyways,thanks for all the help guys.

Did the screen come with its own backcover and front bezel or is it just the bare screen?

Where the screen looks like it connects to the computer tehre are screws underneath. You will have to remove some of the plastic pieces to get to it. Once You take it apart You can see how it goes. I was scared my first time when I had to do it but after you do it once You will never forget how to do it.

I have an HP Pavilion Notebook. Quite unexpectedly, I went to turn my computer on, and the screen never came on. The lights on the keyboard lit up, but not the screen. I let it sit for a day, turned it on,...

Hi tecarter...

Hook your laptop to an external monitor and see if the screen comes on...if it does then your lcd screen is faulty and needs replacment.
If it does not come on then re-download your video driver/s.
If that does not work.
Maybe your lcd inverter or backlight bulb is faulty and needs replacement.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

Hi:
You may not have ot rep;ace the entire screen or the backlight on one side of the screen if you open it up there is a inverter board make sure the connection wires from the main board to the inverter are not pinched from opening and closing the lid.

HP DV1000 screen too dim

The 4 most common problems with dim lcd's on a laptop are boken screens, bad power inverter, bad florescent bulbs or a broken cable.

You can test the power inverter with a meter.

There should be 2 bulbs. If your screen is dim and your inverter is good and you can still make out what is on the screen, you probably have a bad bulb. If you can't determine which bulb is bad you'll have to replace both.

In my opinion, the easiest way to handle this is to replace the whole screen. Yes, it's more exspensive, but consider that it is most likely to fix your problem. A replacement screen comes with the power inverter, both bulbs, and the cable; already assembled and ready to install.

Screen replacement.taking the old off and installing the new

OK this is sorta ez and hard. Before you start unplug and take out battery. Ok on most laptops on the top part of the keyboard area is space where there are buttons for volume/power/etc. That piece comes off by using a tiny screw driver. Look for a little dip in the plastic it unsnaps there by popping it up. once this is off you remove the keyboard by removing either the 2 or 3 screws that hold it down. Now dont yank the keyboard out since there is data cable you need to pull out. By holding the keyboard in 45 degree you can pull the data plug from its socket. Now you have the keyboard out and from there u can see that there is a cable that runs to your lcd. Unplug it. That was the worst part of the ordeal. Now close your LCD and turn the lappy over and directyl under the lcd hinge under the laptop should be a tiny bolt holding the hinge down. Remove those and then open the laptop up at and try to pull the LCD out if it still dont come out then there are 2 more screws on each hinge u need to remove. Now it should come off. VIola its done now just put back the new one in same fashion. First hinges

HP Pavilion DV1000 Screen Replacement

Here's the HP manual for it, too many instructions to post and the pictures should be helpful. Just take your time, figure out what you're going to do twice and then do it once. Much cheaper to take a few hours longer than you'd figured on than to fix a self-made problem:
