On your sump pump, there is something called a nameplate which lists model number, serial number, manufacturer, and power requirements. The power can either be listed in watts directly, or in amps (at 120v). Also click on this web page and You will be able to figure it out. http://www.donrowe.com/inverters/usage_chart.html Hope that answers Your question.

Dedicated 20 amp outlet

Ideally you should run the line straight from the circuit breaker out to your hot tub, but if the line running from your circuit breaker to the box you're using now is 20amp. you can absolutely connected to that. to be up to code it cannot be an open box it needs to be closed After you wire in your 70ft connection. (that's assuming the box that you're using is dedicated already to your hot tub) then the only difference would be is your using extra line and costing you tenths of a penny extra and electricity per hour.

Does adding more electrical outlets require to increase breaker amps/condiut?

Yes maybe, depending on what you are doing.

1) Electric Code generally says Maximum 12 boxes per electric circuit controlled by 1 circuit breaker. If you have more boxes, then your house can fail inspection IF inspector finds problem. But it is a minor problem if wire size, breaker size, and amp loads are safely matched.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-switches.html#add

2) Reason for the code: so there is not power loss to last box when many things are drawing power from same circuit, which can cause overheating of circuit and trip breaker, and cause heat damage to some electronic devices and motors.

Which is why you are asking the question.

3) In practical terms, if you are adding outlets to run another light bulb, then you will probably not notice any problem.
However if you are adding plugs so you can run shop tools, or blower motor, or compressor etc, then that can be a problem.

For example if wire is too long, there will be power loss to motor which will cause motor overheating and shorten life of equipment.

4) Solution.
Calculate total amps and watts expected on that circuit.
Add up watts of everything running at same time.
Volts x amps = watts
120 volt microwave uses 1500 watts, how many amps?
Amps = watts divided by volts, so 1500 watts divided by 120 volts = 12.5 amps.
Compare your total expected amp usage to charts on following link.
Make sure you have correct wire and circuit breaker for expected amps. Oversizing wire and breaker are good idea.

Frigidaire Dehumidifier Tripps the Circuit Breaker after few min. running...

Sounds like your outlet is rated at 15 amps (is wired to a 15 amp circuit breaker) which is too small to run a humidifier. Most humidifiers pull 20 amps. You can check this by looking at the back panel, it will tell you how many amps it pulls or possibly how many watts. If it lists only the wattage divide the voltage by the wattage, it will give you the amps. If you have an outlet which is rated for 20 amp (usually in the kitchen or laundry room) and plug in there. If it runs you will know your problem. If this is the case be glad that the circuit breaker is working, my neighbors house caught on fire from a defective outlet that a humidifier was plugged into.Good luck, sl

The AC Plugs on my EU 3000 Generator are not working all of a sudden... I was using it and one plug and it stopped working, so I switched to the other outlet and after a while it stopped working also.

if no power on the plugs check for the cercuit breaker fuses and check for your load why it is tripping the circuit breaker the unit sbould not be overloaded

Fan running after car is turned off. car dies and wont start, but its getting power from battery

there is a fan timer module that runs the fan if the temperature is 194 or hotter. if the module, which has internal relays fails the fan will not shut off.if you want a cheap fix, wire a relay in series with one of the fan wires so that the relay only is activated by a source of switched power from the ignition..that relay will pull about 200 ma only,so wire the relay power to a circuit like a switched power outlet, lighter or other circuit with no computers on it to control the relay.the radio circuit switched power is a good one to use,and make sure to use a 25 amp relay ,as the fan pulls about 10 amps.a bosch 4 pin will work fine.

I have a Honda 3000IS generator that only produces ~50 volts from the 30A receptacle--the other receptacles work fine, as does everything else on the machine. How do I get full voltage out of this...

I would guess that this uses both of the 15 amp breakers to make the 30 amp circuit. Try carefully measuring the voltage at the back of the 30 amp outlet after pulling it out. You may have a bad socket. look at how it's wired behind the panel too and see if there are wires from the other sockets to this one. If so, check all connections between them. If you still can't figure it out, try to get a picture of the panel and the wiring behind it and send it to Shelomah@i-can-fix-that.com

Cord gets very hot on the outlet side, prongs will cause 2nd degree burns if touched, made outlet very hot as well.am certain it will cause fire inside wall if left on to cook with.

The unit is pulling more current than the outlet can handle. The unit runs at 1500Watts, or uses 12.5 Amps of current. Most outlets are rated for 15 Amps. It's likely that you have other outlets that also have devices plugged in to the same circuit. For example, having two or three outlets in a kitchen that are all on the same circuit, you might have more than one device running, and exceed the 15 Amps the circuit is made for. So, even though each outlet might handle 15 Amps on it's own before burning up, it's the total amount of current on the circuit that is the limiting factor (3 kitchen outlets wired together on a 15 Amp circuit can have any combination of devices plugged in and running at the same time, as long as the total is less than 15 Amps).

Having a cord turn warm or hot when in use is always BAD. You should try running the unit without running anything else on outlets in the kitchen. See if it still heats up the cord. Do not leave the unit unattended, and do not let it heat very far. Just turn it on and see if it starts to heat up. If it doesn't, you just have to make sure not to use other devices while frying, and you'll be fine (Running a 12.5 Amp device on a 15 Amp circuit normally would not be a problem).

If it does, there is a problem with the fryer or your household wiring. One of these two is compromised in some way (like a partial short or loose wire connection). Do you know anyone who can measure the current use on the fryer for you? Someone familiar with electricity should be able to help. Hopefully, the fryer is bad (using more than 12.5 Amps means it's got a problem), and not your wiring. If the fryer checks out okay, then your wiring is to blame, and you can't use the fryer on that set of outlets. That kind of leaves you out of luck, as I suspect that you don't want to deep-fry in the living room or the garage.

If the wiring is at fault, an electrician can fix the problem by re-wiring or adding more capacity to the circuit, or adding another separate circuit that you can safely use the fryer on. These are expensive solutions, so you may choose to simply do without the fryer. With luck, the fryer itself is malfunctioning, and replacing it will solve your problem.

Thanks,

240v circuit wiring to run my new Dayton Heater (3Vu34A)

On the 40 amp breaker, you should be using 8-3 w/ground. 10-3 w/ground will work on the 30 amp breaker. 12-3 w/ground is used for 20 amp circuits. Your new heater should have the electrical requirements listed in the user/installation information.
