hello my friend has a compaq presario m2000 laptop which was purchased a few weeks ago from a pawn shop. yesterday she brought me the laptop and when i turn it on in makes a funny ongoing noise and opens up to a black screen that says compaq and the goes straight to a black page where it asks for a password in a blue box. After 3 tries it says system is disabled 00020. Unfortunately i only know about my laptop, not hers, any suggestions? when i hit f10 it goes straight to password question, when i hit esc it says:
    639K system RAM passed
    511 extended RAM passed
    256 cache SRAM passed
    system BIOS shadowed
    video BIOS shadowed

then when i hit a button it goes straight to password again. What happened, is this a virus? she never entered any passwords, I myself only added antivirus and firewalled her laptop nothing more...if you can help email me at thanks!

If you remove the system board, there will either be a CMOS CLR button or some CMOS jumpers. You will have to have a look for which your system board has. Then all you need to do is hold down the CMOS CLR button with no power source or battery connected for around 20 seconds, or if you do not have that button use the jumpers. A schematic of the system board will help here as will show you where the jumpers are. I have done it with other HP laptops.

here are the instructions for changing what they refer to as the "reserve battery":

    -Remove the hard drive.
    -Remove the keyboard.
-Disconnect the reserve battery cable from the system board connector.
-Pry the reserve battery free from the system board. The reserve battery is attached to the system board with a piece of adhesive tape.
-Remove any remnants of the adhesive tape from the EMI shield.

Got locked out of my laptop its asking for a password & i have never had one

The person who owned it before you has probably put a bios password in the computer locking you out. I strongly recommend you take it back to the pawn shop and get your money back, or the seller gets a hold of the customer to get the required information, because without it the laptop is useless to you.

Just bought a Eee PC 1000HA from a pawn shop, and when I charged it and turned it on, it goes to a bios screen that says at the bottom that the hard disk is locked. It ask's for user password or press ESC...

When buying things from a pawn shop, it is wise to check it out to see if it functions properly before you purchase it.
Hard disk passwords cannot be broken/hacked, and putting a new hard disk in the laptop may not work, this depends upon the BIOS password setup.
I suggest you try and return it and get a refund.

I bought a garnim nuvi 205w from a pawn shop it has a password on it. Is there a code to unlock this unit. My next step is to send it to garmin or back to the pawn shop.

There's a small hole near the power jack. With the unit plugged in, use a paper clip and push in LIGHTLY into this hole. It will reset the unit back to factory specs.
