It's likely a little sand or grit got in there and is creating friction preventing it from opening. But the FS100 is a relatively new camera, and is likely still under warranty. Call 1-800-OK-CANON to see if they'll help. Here are some other options. Try these ONLY if Canon cannot help you (stick with the non-obtrusive fixes only, don't open up the camera):

My canon hf 200 automatic lens cover will not open

The lens cover mechanism in these cameras is susceptible to debris and requires disassembling the camera to repair. This can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem due to the fact that the camera will need to be partially disassembled and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I

Last winter I dropped my Canon FS100, and the LCD screen would only display black or a grey strobe in camera mode. After a week of what seemed to be repeated attempts to reboot, it "healed" itself! Now a...

It might be that she damaged the lens where you just got it slightly wet. damaged the lens or the CCD that receives the image itself. it might not be repairable at all, If its a case of water damage remove all power sources from it and use a hair dryer on low for a while to dry it out " make sure the screen itself does not heat up to much and focus on the lens. You may have to replace the camera or contact a repair person. I myself give any repair a try and most things with a little luck can be saved.

I have a Canon IXUS 800, the shutter won't open properly, just opens about a millimetre. I don't want to break it as otherwise it is an excellent camera. I think it might have some dust in the shutter...

If you truly mean the lens shutter, please see this link.
However, if you are referring to the automatic lens cover that goes over the lens, then see this link instead.
And yes, dust will cause this problem for both issues.

How do you download video clips from a Canon FS100 camcorder?

the easier way its to go on the actual folder and copy /paste ...but ...the actual way to select it just like a picture..and then download....I believe you used only the automatic download until now...but if you cancel that will either open the folder prompt to ask you what to do ...just like you insert a cd...and there select open folder...and copy manually ...or the manager import from device ..and there look for the folders(browse) where the videos are is usually a different one on the card..
...also if you cancel the initial will find the camera storage (SDcard) into the My computer a removable device ......act with it as any other moving from folder to folder...beware if you select cut ...this will remove from the card permanently ...the file

Unable to load video to imac

Most cases, with apple product, I did not have much problem compare to PC computers. I'm not a Mac user but we do have hookup at the shp and simply we use iMovie program to edit and test equipment. Here is how we do it. 1. Set the camcorder at VCR mode and play short portion for a few time for operation. 2. open iMovie program, 3. hook up the firewire cable. If this procedure did not produce the connection, you may have a hardware problem. -James

DCR-HC96 Automatic Lens Cover won't open

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
