Question about SimpleTech Pininfarina 80GB External USB 2.0 SP-UE25/80 (SPUE2580) Hard Drive

Saving my music

I purchased a SimpleTech 80GB about 6 months ago. I have tried to save my music on to it and just plug it in and play my music back. I have a problem with my music not coming up and it says Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted. All I want is to just save my music and photos onto the SimpleTech 80GB and play my music without having to restore all of the music back onto my laptop.

Re: Saving my music

Windows media player is probably right because you have moved the music to another location. You might need to rebuild the library.

Use Windows Explorer to check that the music is on the new drive.

Can I also recommend downloading Winamp to play your music, It's free, sounds better and doesn't spy on you!

When I plug it in it says the drive is not

You may need to try recovery software - Recuva is a free option.

After you have, hopefully, recovered your data, you will need to format the memory stick.

I have my simple tech set to back up personal docs every day. This works fine. However, when I attempt to back up the entire HD to SimpleTech, it begins ok then stops before completed. One time it stopped...

Double check all the power options on your PC to make sure it is not set to go to sleep or hibernate or any other process that may interrupt the backup itself.

Also make sure there is enough space to back up to.

Make sure that the interface you use to connect also has any power saving turned off.

Many devices have the option of going to sleep or turning off to save power and you would need to check the full properties of your usb or firewire card to check that.

Make sure your antivirus or any other application is not set to scan or run during the same time interval as your backup

when you have checked all that you may find that it now works as it should. has some useful info as does

Give it to the authorised service station and claim the warranty. They will backup your data and possibly replace with another HDD. There are many expert technicians who can retrieve data from a HDD even if its damaged.

Simpletech 250gb hard drive

can you access the music with windows media player? If you can, itunes is corrupted as you moved the music to a new drive and itunes will only look for it in the itunes folder it sets up. Best option is reinstall itunes and it will find your music on the new drive.

Purchased about two months ago. the external drive turns constatly making a grindin sound.

You need to RMA (Return to Manufacturer) your external hard drive. Most hard drives have a pretty decent warranty on them. Your simpletech 250GB has a 3 year warranty on it. Info on the warranty can be found at If you want to RMA it, click the "Technical Support / RMA Request" on the left hand side of that page.

Simpletech pininfarina problem

It appears that this is happening a lot with external drives. Inside most of them is just a regular internal drive. In my case I simply removed the drive from the external enclosure (a SimpleTech 160 Gig) and installed it in my PC, where it works like a charm. Most people who have this problem go out and buy a replacement generic external drive enclosure for about $30.00.

Simpletech hard drive

Your desktop usb compatibility is not supported your 160GB. The only way to attach you 160GB is to make it secondary partition to your primary drive by opening the CPU and attach it to your IDE cable.

Don't force yourself if you cannot do it by yourself just leave it to the expert. Probable cause to damage your hard drive if it is not installed properly.

Haskel, Have you tried a different USB wire? Constantly remove of the cord can wear down the contacts/something is on the contacts? Check that I'll get back to you if I find anything relevant. Good Luck, Tim
