Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

1 Answer

Cannot connect to internet when Symantec is running and:

I have a TMobile router that my landline telephone connects to. For some when it is connected with the ethernet cable directly from the computer modem and another cable from there to the laptop, I can't go online but the phone still works. I have to disconnect the yellow ethernet cable from the router and run it directly to the computer, cutting off my phone. It just started this morning after a couple of months of trouble free operation. I called TMobile and we discovered that Symantec is not synched with the TMobile Hot Spot Router that my phone is connected with. David

How do I hook up my 2wire router?

Run a 2-strand or 4-strand telephone-wire from your telephone wall-jack to the telephone-port on the router.
Run an 8-strand "straight-through" (not "cross-over") Ethernet cable from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network port on your computer.
Connect the AC power to the router, and turn it on.
You now should have Internet access.

Or, telephone the Technical Support department of your Internet Service Provider, and get them to help you, step-by-step.

1. Disconnect the router from the modem.
2. Reset the modem.
3. Connect your computer directly on the modem.
4. Check if the wired connection is OK (for longer time).
5. If not, check/replace the filter splitter, if you have one.
6. If still having problems: Call your ISP to check your status.

7. When the problem is solved, connect the router to the modem.
8. Reset both router and modem.
9. Recheck the connection.

Use a 2-wire or 4-wire cable to connect from the telephone-jack to the telephone-port on your DSL modem/router combination device.

Use an 8-wire Ethernet cable to connect from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your laptop.

Then, you will have Internet access, and, if this router also has a "wireless" capability, you can configure it to provide wireless access to your computer(s).

How do i connect my router to my telephone line

The telephone line doesn't connect to the router. The telephone line goes to the modem which is provided to you by your internet provider. Then an ethernet cable is connected from the modem to the router.

The modem allows the internet connection to be active, The router is used to distribute the Internet to create a network.

Yes, you can chain routers together if you'd like, however people who connect to the first router connected to the modem will not be able to see the people connected to the chained router. However, people connected to the chained router will be able to see the other people connected to the main router.
