The start-up repair has run again and indicates "start-up repair cannot repair this computer automatically"

  • bonesrandis5 May 26, 2009

when I power up it does show the BIOS revision 2.1.0 - then I get a recovery screen - safe mode, etc... I cannot get any of them to fix the problem - if I choose start in normal mode it acts like it is going to open, but screen stays blank

did you get any cd's with the laptop? Maybe an operating system cd and a drivers and utilities cd?

Do you have the dell password recovery cd? Also keep in mind that when you restore it back to factory defaults that you'll lose everything so don't do it if you have files that you have to save.

Either the operating system has corrupt system files or the hard drive is bad but you won't know until you try to restore your computer back to factory defaults.

Does the screen display any normal boot information when starting up such as bios version, hard drive info then goes black?

last thing then, press f8 when you boot up the laptop and see if you can choose last known good configuartion in the boot menu.

Try going into safe mode and if you get in there, try to do a system restore back to the last date that it was working properly.

Go into your BIOS by pressing F2 and make sure the cd drive is the first boot device. Install the operating system cd first and go thru that. Then you'll need to install the drivers and utilities disk. After that you can put the applications cd in and choose what programs you want to install off of that.

Thats the order you should install the cd's. Assuming your hard drive is good then everything should go thru. If you need more help then let me know and I'll help you as much as I can. I'll be here for a while.

When you boot up off of the operating system cd. It will say press any key to boot up off of the cd, be sure to do that so it boots up off of the cd and goes into the system setup.

Hi there,

Follow the below steps it would fix your issue.

Method 1: First you need to try safe mode and check if you are able to boot to the desktop.
Follow this below provided link to start your computer in safe mode.
Advanced startup options including safe mode
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode
Method 2:
If you are able to boot into safe mode then in order to troubleshoot this issue further, you may unplug all the external devices except keyboard and mouse and check if you are able to boot to the desktop.

Method 3: If the above provided steps don't resolve the issue then, I would recommend you perform startup repair.
Follow these steps:

To perform a Startup Repair follow the steps below:

a. Please insert the Windows 7 DVD and reboot the computer.
b. When we are prompted to press a key to boot from the DVD, please press Enter or the space bar.
c. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
d. Click Repair your computer.
e. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
f. On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to fix the problem, and if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes repairs.

Try booting the pc into safe mode with networking. If it will boot to safe mode then all is not lost. If it won't boot to safe mode, try to boot with the windows disc and go to the restore screen or go to the repair option and try to repair the windows startup.

Inpiron 1501 keyboard working slow

Does the issue occur in Safe Mode (Press F8 at boot, select safe mode) If not then a program is likely conflicting, run a virus and spyware scan. If the issue does occur in safe mode, try adjusting keyboard settings in COntrol panel

Computer won't boot

I assume, you have windows Vista, on your computer. If the startup and repair is not repairing the system. The operating system has crashed.
If you have the windows VISTA dvd , there is a possiblity to run startup and repair from the dvd to fix the problem.
But before you do the same, just run the diagnostics on your harddrive.
1. restart your computer
2. Tap on the F12 a couple of times when u see the DELL logo
3. Select HDD diagnostics

Post back the results

Thanks

Hi Erika,

have you tried pressing F8 when it starts booting (keep pressing it before dell bios screen fully loads)

you should get a black screen with options,

scroll up to with arrow keys>> "last known good configeration"

let me know if that works?

also have you installed any programs or hardware befor this happened?

My dell inspiron 1525 is very slow causes?

try to check running programs on the back ground, you could view that by going to the task manager.
exiting programs that you dont need will give you some spare virtual memory.
to access task manager:
press ctrl+alt+del then press task manager,

also check the loading programs upon booting the computer, check your startup and remove unnecessary programs that load upon startup.

set your computer to have the best performance

one more thing try to disable your anti virus to see if it is the cause of the slowing of performance.

This indicates a hard drive failure. Try reinstalling the operating system, if you have any problems during or after the reload, then the hard drive is bad and needs replaced.
