Go into the page setup screen or right-click on the workspace where you have started creating the label, and go to Properties. There is a selection for thermal transfer or direct printing. You can adjust the setting here.

Remove the ribbon. Load the direct thermal stock. Power the printer down. Count to five. Return power to the machine and then press the calibrate button (go throught the calibrate sequence). If that does not work. Let me know. There is a way to return to factory defaults and it should sense when you have a ribbon loaded and go to direct mode automatically.

Can a Zebra S600 printer print labels without using a ribbon?

Yes it can but you have to use DIRECT THERMAL MATERIAL. That eliminates the need for a ribbon but what most people don't realize is that a ribbon is almost like "Oil" in your car. Direct Thermal material is more abrasive and will wear out your printhead much faster. Now if you don't print lots of labels that may not be a big deal but if you print 500+ labels a day then thermal transfer may be a better choice in the long run. Printheads are one of the most expensive components of these printers.

Hi, On a Zebra S600 printer... How to change setup for print method (actually it showing up direct thermal) and we would like to change the print method to (Thermal trans). Thanks! Pierre Tardif

The easiest way may be to change your printing preferences at the driver level. We use Seagull Scientific Drivers (They are free to download).

If you use the Seagull Driver go to your Printers Folder, "Right Click" your printer and go to Properties
Then Go to the General Tab then Printing Preferences then Stock Tab then Print Method. Click on the Down Arrow and change to THERMAL TRANSFER.

If your using a label printing package make sure your settings are for Thermal Transfer since they can override default printer settings.

Good Luck

The barcode cannot be printed on the direct label

Your description is not very specific but no printing can be the result of:
1. The darkness is not set high enough
2. The ribbon is loaded backwards
3. You are trying to do direct thermal printing (no ribbon) but the label stock is not direct thermal stock.

Maybe you can provide more details.

Hope this helps,

Changed rolls of labels on Zebra GX 420T and now nothing prints

Were the new labels thermal paper? Thermal printers need specially made paper to work right.

Zebra S500 no print

You can find the manual in www.zebra.com, and try reset, pressing FEED and PAUSE keys and turn on printer, release keys until move labels.

Poor Quality Print on Zebra 105SL direct thermal

How many labels has the printer printed? Because it sounds to me like you just need to replace the print head.

They are around $400 from whomever your supplier is, and very easy to replace.
