Question about Philips Magnavox DVD/VCR Dual Player

1 Answer

Hooking it up to our cable for which we don't have boxes.

We bought a DVD/VCR recorder combo, but we don't have cable boxes, just the cable cord that comes directly out of the wall. What do I need to do to be able to hook up the combo?

You do not need any special hook-up. Just connect the combo to your television and it should work just fine. The only problem you might have is if your television is the type with the antenna only connection. If this is the case, you will need a coaxial to antenna adaptor to make the connection. These can be found in the local electronics store. You can also find all the cables you might need. A store like Fry's or the Micro Center will carry all the needed accessories for any type of connections. You can also find them on the internet by using the search engines for the type of connector you might need. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

I have a maganovox combo system, converter box, older model zenithe tv and rf modular. How do I connect all this to record and look at vcr on combo? I need step by step of hooking up all cords and plugs....

You dont need the rf modulator. Use a female to male rf, antenna cord and plug from the RF out on the back of your combo to the TV. Now you need to tune your TV on analogue mode until you find the dvd/vcr picture. Have the combo on when you're doing this.

Bought a new VCR/DVD combo. Have TV with cable

Hard to believe you do not have any "F" connectors on the VCR/DVD. What brand is this? You should have inputs and outputs for separate composite and audio. Using phono cords with male ends you should be able to go to and from your television for recording and watching. It will mean alot of changing to go from one mode to the other but should be doable provided your tv has composite in/out. Your owners manual should show a diagram to hook the unit up this way. If you get stuck email me and I'll try to walk you through it. Give me as much info as you can on inputs and outputs. Let me know.

Would like to record from my tv to my magnavox dvd/vcr combo box

If I understand your request right, You do not have cable or satellite box.
You can not record from your TV. You use the TV as a monitor from the dvd/vcr combo box. What the box receives is what shows on the TV. So you will have to have a digital convertor hooked to the (antenna in) dvd/vcr combo box, (antenna out to the tv antenna in) Depending on the antenna you are using that is on the other end of your cable-in coax connection this will hook to your antenna in on the digital convertor box. If your cable is hooked up and operating correctly and directly to the tv that is digital ready you probabbly have a good picture. When the vhf/uhf signal was transmitted you could go from the dvd/vcr to the tv with no problem. But now that the signal is digital and the tv is set for digital the dvd/vcr will not pass a digital signal to the tv. Best suggestion, you have to get a digital dvd/vcr receiver. If you have more question please contact me.

HELP! I can't figure out how to Connect my Sylvania DVD/VCR Combo to my older TV

Even if you do get it connected you cannot copy from vhs to dvd as you have bought a vcr recorder with dvd player, not a dvd recorder. You can only record to the vcr tape from a dvd, in the players controls.
