Re: sound

Go to control panel, then click on system, then click on the tab hardware, then device manager

Look down the list under sound, video, & games controllers.

Check if the sound is set up, if not set up you will see something to the nature of audio controller with a yellow ! point. This means the driver is not installed. Go to Gateway's website to download the driver for your sound card if this is the case. If not check the soun properties to see if you have it muted.

Hope this helps

No sound from speakers

I will assume that your Operating System is Windows 7 or 8. You would have to go back to the Control Panel \ Sound Properties and change the playback device. You would click on the "Speakers", then click on the "Set Default". Since this is the only audio output device you can set the defaults to this exclusively. Enjoy!

If the sound drivers are alright, may be you have disabled either front panel/ back panel audio through a jumper on your mobo. Change it plug towards front / back panel & check again. Its also possible that the speakers are not working.

Monitor flashing from normal to black

If this is a lcd monitor, sounds like your back lamp is going out. check to see if you can see your desktop by looking at different sharp angles from above the monitor and if you can barely make out your desktop icons. If it is the back lamp, I am sorry to say it will be expensive to replace (I had the same problem myself and it was just cheaper to replace the monitor).
