Problem with downloading router driver/firmware

I am trying to set up an additional laptop to my home network. The Win XP laptop has a wireless card.

Problem is I cannot find my driver for the Belkin (F5D8231-4) Wireless Router (F5D82314) I went to Belkin and 'downloaded' the firmware file, but the zip folder is empty - tried this several times. I am using a Win Vista laptop to access the internet wirelessly through the same router.

What am I missing?

You don't need software for the router. Is your wireless encrypted or open? Just view avaiable networks with your xp machine and choose your network to connect to. If you do have an encrypted signal use the vista machine and type in the ip address to the router in your browser window. I think belkins router ip is 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1 Hope this helps, let me know

Try upgrading the Routers firmware settings, before you do that make sure that you take down the settings , as you will have to resetup your network .

Sometimes this problem occures when you install a later model wireless router.
Try installing the latest Wireless card driver on the XP computer and the LAN card drivers on the other computers except the MAC.

Do you have two laptops, one with Vista and one with XP?
Can the XP laptop detect the wireless router?
If so check the wireless card settings on the Vista laptop (ie the SSID and the encryption setting) and configure the same settings on the wireless card on the XP laptop.

Dell Inspiron 1525 not connecting wirelessly to Sky broadband

If your wireless router is configured with SSID, encryption, MAC address filtering (if enabled) etc. then the Dell wireless card needs to be configured with these settings to allow it to communicate with the wireless router.
Check the settings on your PC's wireless settings, and configure the Dell the same way.

I have seen issues like this before , certain chipsets/drivers of wireless cards and routers just dont like each other.

We know your wireless card works just as we know your router works. Trick is to get them to play nice together. Unfortunately, there is no quick and easy way to do this, you will have to try different driver and firmware combos until you find one that works.

You can get dlink updates here
http://support.dlink.com/downloads/

And you can try these drivers here.
http://asus-drivers.blogspot.com/2009/01/asus-f3-f3jc-driver-download.html

One other thing you can try before messing around with drivers and firmware is changing the application you use for wireless. The default for your setup is probably Intel Proset. Try using the native Vista wireless manager and see if that does anything. to access that go to start , run , type in services.msc, scroll down to WLAN auto config. Double click on it and then click on start. If you still cant see your router, its time to start trying drivers and firmware.

2200bg card - weaker signals

Try using a different channel as there may be interference from other appliances. You are probably on channel 11 in the routers settings, so experiment with a channel from 1 to 10, but don't forget to change the channel of your wireless card also.
