Question about Sewing Machines

3 Answers

I have a Bernia Activa 130 that my mother used for some time without any problems. I set it up for the first time today and have the following problem. The top thread works fine but it will not pick up the bobbin thread. I have re threaded the machine several times and made sure the bobbin and bobbin case were place right. Any ideas?

Thanks for suggestions but none helped any more?

Thanks for the suggestions but the prolem is still there. I am able to pull the bobbin thread to the top through the throught plate but when I begin to sew the top thread works fine and make the necessary loops through the fabric but it is not catching the bobbin thread to complete the stitch. The top thread unravels because there is nothing there to hold it to the underside of the fabric.

Try a hard reset. Just unplug the power cord for 30 minutes or more, then try again.

Hi

There could be several things that could cause the machine not to pick up the bobbin thread.

  • The upper thread could be tangled.
Remove the thread completely from the machine.
The correct size spool cap should be used for the size of the thread spool.
Re-thread the machine according to the directions in the manual. You can place a Spool Thread on a Spool Pin.
  • Remove the bobbin and make sure the bobbin is threaded properly in the shuttle race. Remove any loose threads or lint in the shuttle race.
Re-Installing a bobbin into a bobbin case could be a good option
  • You could be holding the needle thread too tight.
Hold the thread lightly to keep the end from going down into the shuttle.
  • The needle could be thread incorrectly.
Thread the needle eye from the front to the back.
  • The needle could be bent or improperly inserted.
Install a new needle with the flat side of the needle facing the back.
Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

sounds like you bought someone else's problem, it could be mechanical or if the machine has a computer, that could be the problem, it would be a good idea to have the machine checked since it is used...

Can Bernina walking foot with soles and seam guided used on Activa 210 be used on 16 yr old Bernina Activa 230????

Please be advised that the newer machines (Classic models) such as the 130-180 and up, have a totally different geometry. This is to say that the older machines have a shorter distance from the center of the presser bar to the needle center. The newer machine design was increased to provide space for needle threaders etc. Older machines will use an older Walking foot model (still available).

Free print manual

there are Bernina manuals as pdf's on their website, www.bernina.com, then go to Support, choose your manual in the drop down box and download it. There is not one there for the Activa 130 but the 135 is there and the 125, both will be very close to your mode.

Needle always stops in up position

I have the Activa 131 and while the needle is made to stop in the up position, all you have to do is push the bottom of the peddle quickly with your heel and the needle goes into the material and stays until you start sewing again. Hope this is helpful.

Owners manual

Unfortunately this is a purchase site. The closest I could get would be for an Activa 220 230 240 . You can download the manual.
Check the picture on no. 7 and see if this isn't your machine.

Hope this helps. Luck!
