Very little sound

My external powered speakers started producing very little sound while plugged into the portable player for no apparent reason. I have checked the speakers out by plugging them into several different pieces of equipment and they seem to perform just fine. My player came equipped with two headphone ports and I have tried them both with the same results (no sound at all unless the volume is turned up to the max and even then it is barely audible) The speakers are new (Kinyo Mod # PS-107) and the player has never been hurt. HELP Please!!!  Thanks
