3 Answers

Emachine 5260 I have had this pc for 2 years now and all was fine . just recently when i press the start up button the fan starts and it sounds like the hard drive is spinning but it does not start up straight away as it used to. If i hold it in sometimes for up to 4 or 5 mins eventually it kicks into life. Any help would be most appriciated. Many Thanks.

when i press the start button the fan starts but the drive won't start and the fan fades away. Since I bought this 3 or 4 years ago the fan has always been very loud, which is strange for a computer which is meant to be used as a media computer (250GB was a lot of memory back then). I think I need a new hard drive. Any recommendations?

I try system restore but teh problem persists.

I rectified my problem by installing a new power supply unit. I am no computer technician but it was
remarkable simple.

Hi, if any one still has this problem i have a solution. I fixed one just the othe day with the same problem. You need to take out the SATA drive and connect it to another computer with a SATA drive. (I borrowed a friends). Obviously they need to be running xp! Turn the second drive on in the borrowed Computers BIOS. Then on startup XP on the OK machine will fix any problems on the drive. It will let you know the drive is dirty and should sort it out. A programme that may help if not is Fix it utilities which you can get A fre copy on most comp magz theses days.

Once back in the machine Defrag and tidy.

I know im over a year late but may help someone.

If still no joy, get a new drive.

It sound like your hard drive has lost something or is ready to die. I strongly recommend that you immediately make a back up of all you important files, then even better an image of your hard drive. To do an image you can use something like Drive Image or Ghost; in this way in case you need to replace your hard drive it will not take 2 days to reinstall Windows and all the programs.

To better understand if your Hard drive isd daying, you can look at LED in the front of your PC to see if stays only for a long time. I also suggest you to use a nice and free utility Drive Fitness. You can download it from here http://www.softsea.com/review/IBM-Hitachi-Drive-Fitness-Test.html when you install it it will create a Floppy disk.

After creating your Floppy you start your PC from Floppy and it will test all the parameters of your Hard Disk.

If Drive Fitness doesn't find any issue means that there is a problem with Windows (Some file corrupted or lost)

Start-up problem with emachine 366i

Replace the power supply - but before that - remove every card in the machine and remove the ram too - clean the end of the ram with a pencil eraser - reinstall.
Clean the rest of the cards with a pencil eraser and reinstall.
Blow all the dust from the machine with a can of AIR - get the power supply and fans real good - put it back together and if it works - fine - if not - replace the power supply.

My E machines 5260 won't start up! It appears to

Techguru2009: You might have a static electricity charge on your motherboard. First you need to ground yourself before you open the case. Remove the memory cards from the motherboard. Turn your computer on without the memory installed, you should hear several beeps. The system is letting you know that you have no memory. Turn computer off reinstall the memory cards, close case and boot up. You might also want to reset the bios while you are at it, you can do this by removing the cmos battery for ten minutes. Warning: do not open the case while the plug is still on. Safety first. I hope this helps.

Emachine wont start, just beeps

This is probably a problem with your DIMM(RAM) Did u recently install an extra RAM?If yes then remove it because the beep sound is due to the mismatch of frequency of two DIMM's. If not open your computer and check if the DIMM is loose just push it in and powerup your comp..Let me know if its fixed..
