I purchased my Samsung RB215 bottom-freezer refrigerator less than 3 months ago. It has worked well, but has a noise I am concerned about.

From the beginning it has made a low vibrating noise every 15 minutes or so. The noise only lasts a second or two and sounds like a distant cell phone set on vibrate. In fact, that's what I thought it was at first. The noise seems to be coming from the temperature sensor, that blue eye on the backupper wall that stares at you when you open the door, like HAL from 2001 A Space Oddessy. Two weeks ago, HAL became more insistent. The buzzes are now occasionally quite loud, loud enough to be heard from the next room, and I hear them several times a day. (The quiter vibation noises are also intermittently heard). The louder buzzes last only a second or two. But I have definitely localized the noise to the blue eye. Rapping on it and speaking firmly have not made it stop. My limited owners manual notes that the compressor may make some noises, but should quiet over time. Should I get this checked out before my Samsung quits on me? Thanks.

You must first determine where the noise is coming from it could be simple as being unalanced

it's the aluminum defroster coils cooling after a defrost cycle.
a padded aluminum foil-covered mat installed behind the defrost heater in the back of the fridge is a fix at least for Samsung I know.

Question: was the fridge running when you went to pick it up ?
Was it already on ?
My thinking is that you have the ice build up problem too and that it never thawed. If you unplug it, thawing could take days. Seriously. If you take the inside panel off and get some heat on it
only an hour or so.
You have the exact same model I do, and it works good, just designed poorly. It needs a drain hole on that condensor.
And your fan probably is fine. Do not spend $500.

Loud periodic buzzing

Are you sure this noise is not just the ice maker trying to cycle without water? If it is not turned off it will dry cycle every 15 min or so.

Whirlpoor Refridgerator 10-12 yrs old

I had a whirlpool fridge that did the exact same thing. Sometimes it was loud enough to wake me up at night! It is the compressor shutting down. I had it for several years untill I purchased a larger one, and then gave it to a girlfriend at least a year ago. Its still working good today. So if you can tollerate it, just live with it. Otherwise change the compressor.

Clicking Fridge

I used to have a whirlpool fridge, they are the ones who make kenmore too. It used to make a loud thud noise. It was the compressor turning off. sometimes it was loud enough to wake me up at night. It did this for years and I never had any problems with it. when I purchased a larger fridge I sold it to a friend and its still working today. If you can tolerate the noise I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts giving you trouble.

Samsung Side by Side Refrigerator RS2556SH - Making loud noise

Hi, had the same problem with my RS21DCNS engineer came and made a modification to drain hole (made the hole bigger!) this allows for a little more ice to form without causing the horrid noise. A new backplate was ordered as all new models have a larger hole in the backplate already. It only takes a few mins and it under guarantee if you bought less than 2 yrs ago, but you will have to empty fridge side to allow them to get to inside at the back. Good luck.
