Question about Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

My Maytag M6Q08F2A window AC started to make a loud noise when the cooling kicked in after starting it. I tried it several times, even left it running a while to see if it went away. It also stopped cooling properly - I couldn't tell if it was cooling a little or not at all. Please help! I don't know if the problem is refrigerant needed, condenser, or if it's just dirty inside. I don't have a manual. Thank you

Have realized it's unlikely anyone could answer my question for sure without seeing the air conditioner and hearing the noise.

HI. this is the actual compressor that is making the noise. the internal seals have ruptured. these compressor will run you just about $209.00. Normally, these units will hold a charge for quite awhile so, the refrigerant level should be sufficient.

Hi there,

That depends on where it's comming from, if it's an outside noise, it's probably a faulty mount and the motor is moving when it turns off. If it's an inside noise, it could be the ductwork flexes a little when the blower is running and "pops" back into place when the blower turns off.

Thanks

The unit is blowing hot air it will blow cool and then make a loud noise and start blowing heat.

Sounds like your ac is kicking out on high limit or internal overload. Several factors come in to play. Outdoor coil fins blocked or bent.
Check temp of compressor.

The freezer is defrosting and the refrigerator is warming. the compressor is kicking on approximately every three minutes and is making a loud buzzing sound when it kicks on. is my compressor shot?

Probably not. The compressors are very sturdy and long lasting. The compressor is controlled by a start relay, and is protected by a thermal overload. It sounds like your start relay is bad, which would explain the buzzing sound. It takes a certain amount of time to cool down, and then tries to start again. The start capacitor and start relay should be replaced.

Hi,
Yes it could be the cap. but it also could be the compressor about to go bad...don't sink too many $$ into it those things don't cost that much... save your money and buy a new one when it goes...

remove the AC relay to shut the AC off all the time. Not sure why it wont start but you may havea security lockout. Fully charge the battery to proceed.

Maytag M6Y18F7A Air Conditioner troble light turns off

you have to open the unit up or atleast see if the fan is failing. The blower motor is usually a double shaft and cool the compressor and also blows the air across the evaporator. Look for the air to stop blowing then the compressor to shake from overheating.

Ac starts kicks on and off every couple mins

Sounds like the compressor is the one making the "NOISE". If the sound sounds like something trying to start, then kicking off, its probably the compressor and not the fan. Hence no cool air.

AC roof unit stops cooling after rain

No, the units are sealed and the rain should not have affected the system at all. I would remove the outer cover of the unit and access the capacitors. Your start capacitor may be bad. You can visually inspect this and tell if there is a problem. Small black relay on top of capacitor often burns out, if so, replace capacitor and relay. If this looks fine, then we need to start at the thermostat and work our way forward.

Thanks,

Jeff

REFRIGERATOR IS MAKING A BUZZING SOUND, not cooling

You have one of two problems going on. Your fan is spinning at hitting the sides. Or your compressor is shot which seems to be more the problem and even though it is cold the humming sound is a warning for you that the compressor is shot and it is more affordable to replace the fridge then the compressor. Sometimes compressor can cost more then the fridge.

Loud AC unit outside trane high efficiency xb1000

The noise could be the fan trying to pull air through the condensor. Service cleaning should improve cooling and lower noise level.
