I found a company "comprehensive computing" in Va THAT SPECIALIZES in this repair, is quoting $99 for a re solder. Does that sound like a reasonable price?
    Thanks,

I am going to assume that like many, your plug for the power input on your labtop has come disconnected from the board.
The only way to fix this is to spend a substantial amount of time dissassembling your laptop and resoldering the connector to the board
Most shops CAN do this, it is just a question of finding a tech willing to "go the extra mile" for a client. The procedure is actually extremely easy, the problem being in the ammount of time it takes to physically remove the board.
If you cannot find a computer tech willing to attempt the procedure then look for a TV repair shop, as I stated, the procedure itself is simple. Just let them know that you only want the connector resoldered.

$99 sounds fair considering the amount of work required to access the plug.

As I said, you can also try a tv repair tech, maybe cheaper...maybe not.

    Happy Memorial day.

The $99.00 is fairly typical for that repair. And it's a decent deal if there is some guarantee regarding the work. If time permits maybe do a little more shopping for the job but take into consideration a guarantee.

Received Dell XPS 8100. No cd player so they sent me one. Dell hell it is. Anyway, I opened it and found MANY wires unconnected. Can you tell me what connects where? I took the cd burner out of my old one...

Your old computer had IDE interface, the new computer has SATA interface.. There is a thin connector power cord and interface cords with tge same width connectors. The existing hard drive has thes cables connected to it. Connect one power cord and one data interface cable to the cd drive. Connect the audio cable to the cd drive and the Audio IN connector on the motherboard.
Unless the motherboard has a ide connector. you can not use your old hard drive or cd. You can get a external drive encloser that can convert IDE to USB

My neo empriva 540nvb notebook can not be started in battery power.if i remove the power cord. if i put the power cord it can start and if i removed the power cord it continuously starting.

This is a motherboard problem, what happens is a voltage regulator chip goes out and one of the many that irects power to parts of the board are no longer working correctly. Search ebay for another motherboard and if you do not feel confident in installing it, take it down to the local computer shop after you got the motherboard

Bought a new power cord because I had to keep moving cord around to get battery to charge, move and would lose charge received new power cord and still have to move cord around to keep getting a charge...

First thing you need to do is STOP trying to wiggle the cord to make it work. You could damage the motherboard.

The power jack needs to be replaced. It's a pretty standard repair. You can try finding a local laptop tech from Craigslist or visit your local shop.

This type of repair usually runs 70-100 out the door (depending on where you live)

I don't recommend you trying to fix it yourself.

I need to hold manipulate power cord just right in

You can buy a replacement motherboard on ebay for $150, but then you will have to pay someone to replace it. That could cost as much as the motherboard itself, so it is up to you how much you are looking to spend on this system.

Good Luck

Pin from motherboard is broken. No more power

You'll need to replace the power jack.

Most shops / techs charge $75-100 but that depends on your location.

If you do itself it's about $10 for the jack.

You can get them on eBay fairly easy.

This type of repair is not covered under warranty.

Best of luck!

Power cord woes

If the trouble is that the adapter is bad, it's usually because the wires break inside the insulation from flexing at the computer. You can either purchase a replacement adapter from any of many online vendors, or you can have someone with soldering skills cut the cord back a couple of inches and solder on a replacement plug. The labor cost for the repair might be as much as a replacement adapter.

If the trouble is in the laptop, it's normally bad solder connections from the DC input jack to the motherboard. These connections can be usually be repaired. Sometimes the motherboard is damaged because of heating and arcing caused by the bad connections, and in that case it may not be fixable. If the power input jack is broken, replacements are available.

Your local dealer would probably rather sell you a new computer than offer repair. Or they may not have a repair service available. Try getting a second opinion from another shop. If the computer just needs the connections repaired, you're probably looking at a cost of around $100, with a few bucks more if the jack is bad. (I'm basing my guesstimate on what our shop used to charge when I worked at one about 5 years ago.) The major problem you might face is finding a shop that offers this level of repair. Many shops would rather simply replace the motherboard. In that case, between the part cost and labor it may be only another $100 or so to replace the computer.
