Hi there.
This is the starting price for a new motherboard >>>>>

http://www.smarter.com/motherboards/dell-inspiron-6400-inspiron-e1505-motherboard-/pd--ch-2--pi-1056066.html

To be honest with you they can cost just as much as new laptop and it's not easy to refit them either.
There is a lot that's involved with dismantling a laptop and can be more hassle than its worth unless you think you have the patience for it and have a good memory for where leads, screws and hardware goes.
The reason the LED on the PSU goes out is because there is a feed back problem either at the AC adapter on the motherboard or a powerboard problem, which to inspect or troubleshooting them requires disassembly.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

In my opinion, if the motheroard is dead and it is an older laptop, it is now spare parts. BUT first, try another power adapter to make sure that is not the problem. You do not want to replace the motherboard with the same one, you should want to upgrade the MB. But laptops are one of a kind deals where a newer, better MB just won't fit. So after you have checked to make sure it is not something simple to fix, consider a newer laptop.

I'm asking you this because even with a bad battery your computer should operate without any problems with the AC adapter plugged in.

Remove Any Docking Stations or Port Replicators From the Computer Note: Docking stations and port replicators are optional equipment. If you are unsure if you have a docking solution attached to your computer, refer to Table 1 and Table 2 for examples. To remove the docking station or port replicator, perform the following steps: Shut down the computer. Remove the docking station: Universal Docking Stations: Disconnect the docking station's USB cable from the computer. D/Port or D/Dock: Remove any cable locks from the security slot on the right side of the docking station. Move the slide lock forward to the unlocked position. Press the Eject button and lift the computer from the docking station. C/Port II or C/Dock II: Remove any cable locks from the security slot on the left side of the docking station. Pull the locking lever forward until it stops to eject the computer, then slide the computer out of the docking station. I would replace the battery if you had for some time. Over time charging a battery will slowly not take a charge. If you tried two adapters, about the only thing is left is the battery.

Dead e1505 laptop caused by defective PA-10 power adapter

go to your favorite search engine and put in your computer model number and put dell parts. It sounds like the motherboard, it is unlikely it could be the battery and or the adapter to go bad at the same time.

Computer won't power on - completely dead!

Make sure you have power at the wall outlet then check to see if your power adapter is working properly. Most Dell's have a LED on the brick or on the cable that plugs into the computer that indicates power is applied. If the power adapter is working then remove the battery and see if it powers up. If it doesn't then your motherboard may need replaced.

check if the ac adapter or charger has a green light on it. if not, replace the charger. for dell chargers, it should have a green light to indicate that the charger is getting power from the wall outlet. if the ac adapter is good, then you might need to replace the mother board as the ac port is integrated.

hope this resolves your problem.
