Question about Yamaha RX-V757 Receiver

1 Answer

I've lost all digital sound to my reciever.

I have a Yamaha rx-v757. It has worked fine until today. I'm running 3 HDMI into my 40" Samsung LCD, and then 1 optical cable out to the reciever into the DVD jack. I used the cable with another reciever, and it works fine. The analog RCA cables from my cable box work fine. But when I go from input mode as DVD auto, or DVD DTS, I have absolutely no sound. DVD analog for the cable box does though. I'm not sure if someone sat on the remote or what. But I can't figure out how to get my digital audio back. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Get into the cable box menu and look for audio settings, chances are your digital output from the cable box is off. If you still can't get audio, reply with your Cable Box Make & Model and I can help you further. Hope this helps

You need something like this:

Digital to Analogue 5.1 converter:

I have never used one of these before, but i have worked in the audio industry and if this device works as advertised it will suit your needs.

Is the Yamaha RX-V596 capable of using HDMI in

Nope. Use S-Video or composite video In and digital audio in from the Cable Box, S- or composite-video out to the TV/Monitor.

OR (what I do) skip the receiver as a video middleman and take the HDMI video right to the TV; and run the Cable Box digital audio to the Receiver.

My Yamaha receiver model rx-v565 audio is putting out choppy sounds when cable is playing. I am using all HDMI connections. My TV is an LG 240 Hertz model and using the comcast HDMI box.

Do not run HDMI to your receiver. Run Digital Coaxial or Optical from cable box to your 565. The problem is on many levels. Hardware, Software, Audio Codecs, etc. your receiver is HDMI version 1.1. The current version is 1.3b. You can thank the recording industry for copyright protection for this issue. To have your receiver updated would be Very expensive and not worth it. If you want a blow by blow explanation of all HDMI's issues, Google HDMI forums or problems, and you can read for hours. Hope this helps.

Intermittant disruption of Picture and Sound on View TV/HDMI only

If i am not mistaken you can select the HDMI signal going out on the 663, this means you should select to have only pictures to go out as sound will have to be reproduced by the 663.
So HDMI output setup on the 663 should indicate image only, no sound.

Yamaha reciever rx-v363

Thats because if you look in the owner's manual, it declares the fact that it will only broadcast sound from hdmi to monitor not speakers. For sound out of speakers need to connect additional audio cable.
