If you remove the color cartridge the printer should function in black and white, though It will constantly nag you to install a color cart.

Can it (HP deskjet F380 all in one) still print with only color cartridge or only black cartridge ? Or Should two cartridges remain together to print even one is empty ? Thanks

the answer to your question is yes,it can still print with only one cartridge installed.
If you do not have a replacement cartridge, and the quality of your printouts is not a concern, you can still print in ink-backup mode. Consider the following guidelines before printing in ink-backup mode:

  • If you remove the tri-color cartridge, printouts will be in grayscale.
  • If you remove the black or photo cartridge, the product will print more slowly and the colors in the printouts will vary.
press OK button to clear the error message like cartridge missing after removing one cartridge.

Greetings - have a full black cartridge yet prints green?

This printer uses all 4 inks to make black by default. You have run out of magenta in the color cartridge. Go to printing preferencies, Color tab. Check Print in Grayscale and tick "Black only" to disable color use.

To Save the color ink you can change the printer settings to Black Only.

To Setup:
  1. Press START Button.
  2. Select RUN Command.
  3. Type these commands in CAPS.
  4. CONTROL PRINTERS and press OK or Enter.
  5. Now you will get Printers & Faxes Window.
  6. There you select the ink jet printer which you want to change the color settings.
  7. Right Click on it and Select Printer Properties later.
  8. Select Printing Preferences
  9. There you can see lot of window tabs (just like a worksheets). Depends on printer in any of the TAB you can see the option Black Only / GrayScale Printing Only.
  10. Choose the appropriate option and Select APPLY.
  11. Then give a test page for it.

That's it...

Hope this will be helpful to you..

Printer is only printing grayscale, need color, hp deskjet 6340

This is either because: 1. You only have black ink remaining and your tri-colour cartridge is empty or 2. In the printer driver settings you have selected either: Print Grey scale or Use black only.
I beleive your problem might be the last option.
To fix it :
1. Go to the printer driver (in vista go to: Start, Control panel, Printers, right click on your printer and select "printing preferences"). Now you are inside the printer driver. 2. go to the "color" tab. 3. Tehre you'll see if you have selected wither "Print in grey scale" and/or "Black only". 4. To ensure you get color again, de-select the"Print in grey scale" option.
Cheers, Ed
