Re: GPS Position "greyed out"

That is normal...
Why should you navigate to where you are at the moment?

Change the country setting for a garmin 1350

Typically, when the unit is turned on, the satellitetechnology is able to pin point the unit's current location and provide mapsbased on the user's position. However, if there is not a clear signal or youare located in a different country than the ending destination you are tryingto program into the unit, you may have to manually change the country. For thatplease follow these steps: 1. Touch anywhere on the display screen to access the mainmenu. 2. Tap or select the "Change Preferences" options. 3. Navigate to your map settings. In a Garmin this will belocated under the "View Maps" and then "Change Maps"settings. 4. Use the "Up" and "Down" arrows toscroll through the list of available countries. Once the country you arelooking for is highlighted, press the "OK" button. You will then beasked to select a state or more specific region in the selected country. Onceselected, press "OK" second time. Hope this will help you. Good Luck.

How to find a position from GPS coordinates?

If you know the proper geographic coordinates of your destination, You can easily navigate around your destination using the longitude and latitude coordinates or other coordinate formats.
  1. Touch WHERE TO on the screen,
  2. Touch COORDINATES from the list,
  3. Touch FORMAT to change type of coordinates. Because different maps and charts use different position formats, the nuvi allows you to select the correct coordinate format for the type of map you are using,
  4. Enter the coordinates and touch DONE.
That is how you find a position using the coordinates, but you have to be very familiar with coordinates to be able to use it.
Complements of the season to you over there.

I have just bought a navsmart GPS system for my car and it is a second hand one, so I tried to change the address to my address. I have read the manual and still can't figure out how to change it to my own...

Hi Horses4fun its quite a simple fix. Turn on GPS and "press to accept".Press the map icon on lower left corner. The gps should display a map and an icon that displays your current position. Which I assume is your home address? if you are doing this from home. If so then press the information icon in the bottom right corner. it looks like an i in a circle. Your current position will be in the top blue box/line. select this feild. forth option down is Save as HOME press it and it is done. home location saved is the next prompt and it will go back to the map screen. If you are not at home when you do this it is a bit more complex. I hope this works and you enjoy your GPS. Cheers David.

How do I delete addresses from my Tomtom?

There are two ways

One is from the TOMTOM itself

Touch the map display once.
Select the spanner / wrench icon
Press the right arrow until you see MANAGE FAVOURITES.
Select the one you wish to delete and the display will change.
At the bottom of the screen will be a DELETE button use that.
It will ask for confirmation click YES.
Click DONE when you have finished.

Two is via TOMTOM home
Start TTH
Connect your GPS
Start the GPS
TTH will probably offer you updates (let it do its thing)
When the update is done use the right arrow on your PC display and select OPERATE My TOMTOM

Now use the same method as you did above.

To delete ALL recent destinations

Touch the map once
Now select DELETE
It will ask for confirmation select YES
they will all be deleted and the flag will grey out .
Touch BACK
Touch DONE.

My tom tom has lost gps help! all of a sudden half way through a journey my tom tom lost all GPS signal and wont pick up anything? is there anything i can do to get it back?

here are some tips on what to do ,To pinpoint your location, you need to get signals from at least 4 satellites. If you receive signals from less than 4 satellites or the signals are not strong enough, the Driving View stays grey and one of the following messages is shown in the bottom right corner of the Driving View:
  • Waiting for a valid GPS signal
  • The GPS signal was lost sec ago
Note: In previous versions of the TomTom application the message may vary.
If you see any of these messages, try the following:

Finding a GPS signal
In the following cases it can take up to 5 minutes to find your current position:
  • You use your TomTom device for the first time.
  • You haven't used your TomTom device for a longer time.
  • Your TomTom device has been relocated without using it (e.g. after travelling by plane or train).
If it takes longer than 5 minutes, make sure that you are in an open place without tall buildings or trees around you.
Once your TomTom device has located your current position, the Driving View is shown in full colour and shows your position on the map.
Tip: Most TomTom devices can use QuickGPSfix™ to locate your current position faster. Flight mode
On devices with built-in GPRS connectivity, flight mode also disables your device’s GPS reception.
To switch flight mode off, tap Flight mode in the preferences menu and then select Restore connections.
Clear View
Your TomTom device must be outdoors to locate your current position.
Try repositioning your device in your car; ideally, try to position it at the lowest possible point directly on the windscreen.
Some vehicles have a heat reflective shield embedded in the windscreen, which may prevent your device from locating your current position. If this is the case in your vehicle, use the TomTom External Antenna Kit (available as an accessory).
Tip: As a reference, place your device outside your parked car to see if it can find your current position.
Reset your device
Reset your TomTom device. Click here to learn how to reset your device.
Install the latest application
We recommend always having the latest version of our application installed on your device.

No Assisted Speech Recognition icons

Technically, ASR is not officially supported on the 720, so their is no guarantees. But, first make sure you have the latest application installed via HOME, 'Update my GO'.

Then, open Notepad and type the number 1 ("1"), without quotes, in the editor. Save this file as '' (again, without quotes). It's important that you change the extension of the file from .txt to .cab. Then copy this file into the 'ASR' folder on your TomTom device. Allow your TomTom to boot up and try it again. Also, the icons will be greyed out if you haven't selected a country/state.

No signal

Remove the Antenna while in the upright position, clean connection and replace. Set the GPS current position. Then initialize the GPS. Select Yes and leave the unit alone for 20 minutes. Do not press anything else. The initialization runs in the background. make sure you have a clean line of sight to the sky. Then turn the unit off and back on. You should be OK.

My Magellan RoadMate 700 GPS Receiver won't locate my position.

If out of warranty time frame, open her up and check the grey cables that you will notice right after you crack the case. Make sure the cable is un damaged and connects to the main board (the big one) to the I/O board (attached to rear housing). If no change, then try resetting GPS user data. At User Menu (after reboot), press "-" key and repeat key at the same time. select reset GPS user data and cross your fingers. -Daniel
