My camera will stay on for two seconds then makes a weird beeping noise. I've already changed the batteries. How do I keep it on?

I just bought my S85 last night and shortly after putting the batteries in, the camera will shut off while I am trying to take a picture or even just focusing. It's random. Sometimes I can get a few shots off, other times I can't.
They were brand new duracell ultras and I hadn't even taking 25 pictures with them.
Anyone got this figured out yet?

The lens is stuck out and when I turn the camera on, the light turns on for about 2 seconds and then it turns off while the lens does not go back in as it usually does. I have already tried changing the batteries many times. Can you please help me? thanks.

I have the same problem with my sony cybershot, and it's under a year oldl! It wasn't dropped or abused in any way...I lost the receipt, so I'd have to pay to get it fixed, which would probably cost more than the camera!! HELP!!
