No longer turns on

I have a Samsung model LNT2653H purchased Jan 2008 that suddenly no longer turns on. The red LED turns on and the blue light turns on, clicks, and then turns itself off. There is a fuse (T6.3AH-250v) but I?m assuming it is OK since I appear to be getting some power (LED and blue light). I've researched and found many issues with power supplies and bad capacitors on many Samsung models. After opening the chassis and visually inspecting the capacitors (CM851, CM861, CM860, CM858, CM856, and CB852) they all look fine with no leaking for bulging. They all appear to be 1000uf but various voltages (10v, 25v, and 35v). Should I try to replace all the capacitors, or just replace the entire board (BN44-00192A)? I?ve read that Radio Shack stocks them and they are inexpensive, so I?m thinking it is worth a shot to try and replace them. Any advice? Could it be something else? Thank you.

Thank you. I'll give it a try and see what happens. If it doesn't fix the problem and it is one of the other causes that you describe, I will probably just replace the board since I'm not sure how to diagnose and replace a transistor, diode or electro caps. Thanks for the quick response.

    Great info... thanks....

I replaced 6 capacitors (all but the 2200uf which Radio Shack didn't have) and no change. Unless someone can think of something else, I guess I need to replace the entire power supply board (BN44-00192A) Any thoughts?

This is a 26" Samsung LCD model LNT2653H about 1 1/2 years old.

I'm afraid testing the diodes and transistors is outside my knowledge. I think I'll just replace the power supply board at this point since I found them on ebay fairly inexpensive. Thanks for the help.

I replaced the power supply board and now I get no power at all (no lights come on even for a few seconds as before). The part number that was shipped is BN44-0156A instead of BN44-00192A. It has all the same connections but I'm not sure it is actually interchangeable. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I hesitate to sink too much more money into it as I'm sure a professional repair will run into the hundreds, especially if it needs to be shipped. A new 26" tv is around $400. Any advice would be welcome.

It's well worth replacing the capacitors, but this problem can be caused by a short on the power supply (Which is what the caps do). Most shorts that arise in power supplies are result of a shot transistor or diode and of course the electro caps. Check these while your changing the caps.
Good luck with it.

Electro caps are the ones you have been looking at. Diodes are easy to test just put multimeter in ohms x1 position and get big reading one way none the other (if they read big reading both ways or none both ways then its stuffed) Transistors are a little more difficult you need to put one lead on the base and the the other on emitter and then collector or vise versa. Should look like a diode, if you reverse the leads it will go to a high reading. Somtimes you can measure another diode between colloector and emitter. The important thing to look for is short circuits, with the fault your having so the meter will shoot up, if you read 450-550 this is normal for a diode or transistor.

No probs mate, glad to help.

  • Dudeman321 May 26, 2009

A tube is the nickname for a crt, however your machine is a rear projection. They use a tube for every color (RGB) and project it to the viewer.

  • Dudeman321 May 26, 2009

Sorry i did'nt read your posts correctly, its an lcd tv. So in answer to your question its neither. I gues its time to test the diodes and transistors. lol
No seriosly just start disconecting stuff from the main power supply it will help isolate the fault.

I suspect you probably have a bad LED assembly. It could be either the red, green or blue that is bad and give you the same symptom. The problem is locating parts for it as it looks like the light engine is no longer available. I would have a technician look at the TV to verify this and what parts are needed for repair.

Energy S 8.3 Woofer; blue led doesen't light up

Bought a S10.3 in jan/2010, LED died a month later. I've repaired it by myself. After inspecting circuit, I've found that their design puts almost 14V of reverse bias upon that poor blue LED. These components are not usually expected to sustain more than 5V of reverse polarization. So, in my opinion, there is a design flaw. To make a long lasting repair, you just need to insert a general purpose diode in series with the LED, such as an inexpensive 1N4148 ($0.05). And, of course, any readily available 3V, 5mm, through-hole round blue LED (I think crystal clear should be better).
