My Yamaha HTR-3064 will not turn on at all. I read in page 60 of the owner's manual that if the protection circuitry is operated three times consecutively, the capability of turning the unit on is disabled. I want to know how to enable it again. Please help. Thank you.
I had a Power surge in Brisbane this week and found my YAMAHA HTR-3064 AV receiver unresponsive. Thanks to the Squish22's post, I tried the above approach, which is also listed for another Yamaha model (RX-V667) Unfortunately nothing happened. Another post suggested holding the 'straight' button as you power up to go into "advanced" menu (under DILLIGAF's post.) This also did not work.
I thought I'd try pressing all 3 buttons and powering up, which worked a treat. so here's exactly what I did:
Yamaha HTR-3064 - Protection mode reset:
I had all of my speakers unplugged at the time and tested off the headphone jack before plugging all the cables back in again. Not sure if I needed to unplug everything, but I was about to dismantle and look for a fuse when I tried this method.
Saved me a new system / service fee. Hope it helps you too.
Thanks Squish22 and DILLIGAF for the head-start!
Jason Lynch your a genius! I'd unpuggled all of my unit, ready to take to an electronics dealer to rip me off with some severe service fee and/or expensive fix....and voila!! Your sequence took two goes, but brought it back to life. Stoked and I least owe you a beer or two :) Cheers
Thanks. I'm glad it helped and saved you a few dollars. The local Yamaha repairer offered to fix it for $400. I like this version better!
Yes it also worked for me. After pulling the thing apart and checking everything, that's time I'll never get back. A lesson learnt, always check the internet first. Jason your fantastic, Keep up the good work. Thank You
Thank you thank you thank you! The display suddenly looked like alien communique and then zap! Dead. You saved my date night just like the Cable Guy!
Helped me alot!! Thank you, thought my reciever was toast!
Grazie mille, mi hai restituito il buonumore
Thank you so much. This got me going again when I thought that the unit might be cooked.
Revised procedure to reset the HTR-3064: 1. Unplug the power cord for 10 seconds. 2. Plug the power cord back in. 3. Holding down the "info", "straight", "tone control" buttons at the same time. 4. Press the main Power button. Once you hear the click sound, you will see the display back to life.
This worked for me as well. My HTR-3064 was totally dead. Following Jason Lynch's sequence above sequence restored power to the unit. It will give a response as to what was reset. Analog ? something. Turn off and on again should restore all your settings. Michael Johnson

Squish 22 thank you very mich
If there is no apparent cause for the protection mode activating (such as shorted speakers, burning smell, blown fuses, lighting strike or mains power surges), reset the protection as follows and see what happens.
Connect power cord to mains and wait 5 seconds or so. While holding down "info" and "tone control" buttons, press "main zone" power button briefly and release, but keep "info" and "tone control" buttons pressed for at least 3 more seconds. The unit should power up. Assuming the reason for the protection has passed or been fixed, the unit can now be turned off and then back on with the "main zone" power button to restore normal operation mode.
If the protector activates again, the fault is still present and the unit needs to be repaired, ideally by a Yamaha authorised repairer.
There are dangerous voltages present in high power amps and a lot of grunt in terms of stored energy - best left to trained technicians.
