Epson Stylus R220 Color Problem

My Stylus R220 is just over a year old. I'm having terrible color problems. Initially it put a greenish tinge to a print. I used the Spyder monitor calibrator but prints were still bad. Used a compatible brand ink from a company I'd had great success with on the previous Epson.

Now it's throwing a red tone into skin and light brown hair. I'm still using non-Epson inks. Do I absolutely need to get Epson brand inks to have a decent print? I hate to spend that much and end up in the same situation. I'm ready to toss this thing.

Thank you,

S. Kelly

I have the same problem. I use a continuous ink system. Until recently, all was well. I cleaned my print heads and assumed I messed up my heads. The yellow prints a greenish/yellow (chartreuse) color. Even when adjusting the color. I even bought another printer (a new Epson R220, the same model) and have the same problem. I also recently changed inks. I have checked the ink in the cis bottle and the new bottle. Both seem to be fine (no green tint). I'm at a loss. Any help would be wonderful.

Well, that's true you need to have an original ink to achieve the perfect color... but then its too expensive... I use "bottomless ink" search that at Google website to have an idea... so far I have perfect colors.

I have feint lines across photos and have done head clean. Epson Stylus photo R220.

Well, here's your problem: that's a six year-old printer. I used to have it and and 2007 I replaced it with an Epson Stylus Photo RX595 AIO because like the R220, the RX595 has the ability to print directly onto inkjet printable CD's/DVD's. Your printheads/nozzles are shot and all the cleaning in the world will not fix them and it's certainly won't be cost effective to have repaired when you can get a current model for less than the repair price. Mine went after two years. Honestly, it's amazing that this printer lasted as long as it has. Six years has to be some kind of record.
Here are the current CD/DVD printing models from Epson.

My Epson stylus Photo R220 has 4 new color cartridges that does not print in color prints. Have tried cleaning head etc. What else can I do?

Hello, In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. That sounds like your problem. Also in Purchasing the Brother's . Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, etc. These printers have a chip, that will detect if it is Generic or Genunie. When Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, but you have to fill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for the PRINTERS. I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it.

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

Problem with colour printing. Orange and green

Wow, that's a really old EPSON printer. The life expectancy of a EPSON printer is just three years, after that, the printer wouldn't work because of the clogged permanent printing head. The authorized service center is unable to repair it because the spares are no longer supplied.
Throw it to a recycling center.

Epson r220 printhead cleaning

Helps to turn the printer off when not in use as the heat tends to dry out the ink. Sometimes the heads just quit and have to be replaced. If you are sure it's just blocked remove it and flush with soft water, then buy some windex window cleaner, make a solution of 100 mls cleaner 200 mls soft water and soak overnight , flush with soft water and shake dry, hope it works.

Inaccurate color printed

Check the color profile settings for your printer. Also, make sure your not using any kind of draft mode. Are you using refilled cartridges or off-brand ink?

Epson R800 Red Color Problem

Actually magenta is the weakest compared to cyan and
yellow using even K3 inks. Now epson is releasing
K3 with vivid magenta ink. Using any color management
I have found it very difficult to reach a real red without
a lot of tweaking in my color profiles. Now it appears
that Epson sees the problem and is changing magenta
out for vivid magenta ink to solve the weak magenta.

Ink not empty

You have confused the software in either changing a cartridge when not required or having a chip failure whilst changing multiple cartridges.
Full info on how to get out of this is on my site.

Please go to my website http://www.the-inkstore.co.uk . I have the latest version of SSC Service Utility to download directly onto your computer and instructions on how to use it, what to click on etc etc. Click any of the Epson links if you can't find it, everything you need to know will be there, including printer Firmware resetting which sorts out a multitude of problems.

The 'maintenance required' problem with Epson printers has absolutely nothing to do with which cartridges you are using, it is a built in page counter in your printer firmware, which has a different maximum amount for each Epson model. Don't listen to old wives tales and heresay, we are the experts and it's an Epson scam to cause a lot of people to pay for maintenance or throw their printers away.
I haven't found a model that can't be reset with the latest version of SSC Serve or the manual reset on my site.

For Epson RX500 users there is also a manual reset on my site, as the SSC Serve software won't do it for you.
When using the program & choosing your printer from the list, it may have a weird name with 'x' in the model number, this is because some configurations are for many models in a series. For example, the C46 will be listed as C4x as it is for the C42, C44 & C46 models.

I hope this helps all Epson users to overcome the Epson scam of page counting and locking out until you pay their dealers money for maintenance.

If you like what I've done for Epson users, please show your appreciation by spreading the word and perhaps buying your ink from my site.

Happy trouble free printing

Open the printer Properties, Under quality there should be a box
that you can check (print in greyscale) or (print in black & white).
You have to remembe to uncheck to print in color.
