Question about Refrigerators

4 Answers

I have a top-freezer Kitchen Aid refrigerator, built in 1999. The icemaker works perfectly well as long as you leave it on. When you turn it off for a day or two, then turn it back on, it will not work - unless you unload the freezer and leave the door open until the icemaker "thaws out". Thanks, Charley E. charlyandmarsha@msn.com

Ref. the second suggestion: I've let it ALL thaw out several times. Then, later on when I turn the ice maker off, then back on, it will not work.

    Hello,

I never thought of just lowering the freezer temp a little - I guess you (I) just think of freezing as freezing. I'll do it.

    The model # is KTRP22KGWH01

    Thanks much,

    Charley

Lowering the temperature will help with the freezing issue - also clean the door gasket well with soap and water - and I would also suggest putting a flashlight inside then shutting the freezer at night. If you can see light - your gasket needs replacing.
If the freezer keeps getting the humid air instead of recirculating the dry air inside - ice will build up as well.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Ok, the freezer temp is a bit to low and, this will continue to freeze the ice makers valve and lines. if you are having trouble keeping a consistent temp i the freezer or fridge, i suggest replacing the thermostat and raising the Temp a bit to prevent this freezing of the ice maker components.

Hi
Check your water line and make sure the unit itself hasn't worked loose from the power connector. If that doesn't do it, you can try emptying your freezer and letting it all thaw then seeing if that helps. Sometimes there can be an ice chunk keeping it from moving. Other than that, all you can do is u ve to replace it.
regards

Hi there,

Check to see if something has caused ice to back up around the mechanism—this can cause the fill tube to freeze, blocking the mechanism. When ice cubes are small and seem to be getting smaller, it generally indicates a frozen fill tube.

Let me know

Ice maker makes too much ice

In my Kitchen Aid bottom freezer there is a metal arm(?) that I lift up to stop the ice maker from making ice. When I start running low on ice, I push the metal arm(?) back down for it to make ice again. Hope this is the solution for your Kitchen Aid too.

Water stopped and freezer not cooling

you probably have a bad evap fan motor in the freezer compartment. when this motor goes bad it doesnt distribute the cold air around causin subfreezing temp in the bottom of the freezer it then migrates into the fresh food compartment. you can order the motor by the mod# of your refrig and it is fairly easy to change yourself. good luck peyton

No ice production

Chances are the fill valve at the bottom back of the refrigerator is clogged or failed. This valve opens to allow water to fill into the icemaker.
It could also be that the fill switch in the icemaker has failed, or depending on type of icemaker, the ice level bar is flipped up, or the mold heater sensor has failed.

Please provide the refrigerator P/N for more information.
