Troy-Bilt 2550 20293 pressure washer not producing pressure. Worked when last used 2 months ago. Pump pistons are moving up and down when engine is pulled through. Inlet water is flowing through pump but no pressure when engine is started. I have the same problem. Water flows thru the pump when not running, but no flow or goes in by-pass mode when I start the pump. The pump being Troy Bilt Model 020296-01. I replaced unloader valve even. Anything else I can do?

You replaced the unloaded valve. Are you positive you have the unloader screwed to pressure and not turned the opposite way? You will have no pressure if it is adjusted wrong. One other thing I have encountered is that the unloader has a ball bearing inside. If it is stuck you will have no pressure. Make sure that ball bearing is free.

Hi there,

Check the unloader valve. Sounds like it is sticking. The unloader is just not taking the pump out of bypass mode. It is usually a brass vlave screwed into the pump somewhere near the pressure line.

Let me know for further clarifications

Could also be crack/leak in HP pump. If it were left in cold weather without antifreeze, I'd check there first. Part + labor might warrant new washer if more than a couple years old.
Sorry.

99% of the time is the fuel that has unstabled in your carburetor you can try to clean it but replacing would be recommended.

ok I wasnt satisfied w/ the previous answer so I did some digging. I took off all the hose attachments and drained the line. I then checked for any clogging in ALL the screens. As usual the wand screen was clogged. this is an easy fix w/ a safety pin, but an easier fix is to replace it w/ stainless screen, or alum. The majority of the gunk is Rust. Anyway take the bottom piece off w/ a 6mm. allen key and remove the 5 bolts holding on the casting. (this will expose three pistons on the underside of the motor.) if it dont bust loose use any type of dead blow to knock the seal loose.(should come off easily). Once inside check the o-rings and make sure none were pinched during assembly. Now when I got to this point I started to think,"maybe I'm in over my head". Then I wanted to see if the pistons moved up and down. so I tug on the pull start and she was hydrolocked. so I popped off the spark plug pull a couple of times and notice all was well w/ the 3 pistons, which moved very freely. Then I proceded to put the cast piece back on using a tire tightning pattern. after all is put back together and tightned and turned on, check for pressure if nothing is better I'm sorry. but mine worked and now I'm washing my quad. peace in the middle east, randy
