Sound card not working

Try re-loading the drivers. If that doesn't work and windows is telling you it can't find the sound card, you will probably need to buy a new sound card and install it in your computer because the onboard sound card is bad.

If a new installation be sure and install the device driver that came with it.

If it is an existing card that stopped working it may need replacing or you may need to re-install the device drivers.
If the sound card is part of the main system board and has failed you can replace it with a new sound card plugged into the expansion slots.

Make sure that the sound was not inadvertantly muted - double click the speaker icon on the task bar.

Try the hardware troubleshooting wizard under control panel.

if the computer prompts you to install a new sound card, it means you cannot run the program without the sound card. you need it inorder for the progam to be compatiable with your pc desktop/laptop.

What OS are you using? If this is a Vista machine, try to roll back the sound drivers. Vista is notorious for not being compatible with certain drivers and will set them to update if you use automatic updating. You could have installed a driver with replacement DVD burner / media card and they don't get along with a new or old sound driver. Check HP help and support online to see if they have newer driver for sound. And if you have sound card, check with manufacture for updated drivers.

Try to uninstall and install a new copy of the sound driver.
if it's not working maybe that you need a new sound card because somtime the integrated sound of the motherboard stop working

If you are trying to set it up on a new computer it probably has Winsows Vista. The older cd is probably setup for Windows XP and below. You should be able to download the Vista installation package & drivers from the manufacturers website. Just click the Support link and lookup your specific model #; select Vista as the operating system and the files should appear. Download and Install and you should be all set. Hope this helps.

Yes definitely. Install any good sound card into a PCI slot. If you have WinXP Pro. as OS then it will automatically pick up the driver. If you are using Vista then buy a Vista compatible sound card.....sodeep

Looks like you need to buy a new soundcard. Creative Labs makes an excellent 7.1 digital card for PCI slot that is relatively cheap. Just make sure when you purchase the card, it is Vista Compatable.
