Problem with Sears Garage Door Opener

When I try to open or close my garage door, the door stops after moving only a few inches and the light on the opener flashes. The garage door will open or close completely only if I hold down the button on the remote or wall switch until the door is fully opened or closed. I've checked for something in the way of the electric eye, and don't see anything there that could be causing the problem. Any ideas as to what is wrong and what I need to do to fix it? Thanks.

Garage door only raises about two inches then stops.

Check the door springs and also remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. The door spring could be broken or the drive gear may be stripped.

The sensors only work when the door is closing.

My door closes fine, but when opening, it only

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and may be stripped. If so you will also find what looks like white sawdust inside the motor unit.

When i try to close garage with transmitter or keypad it moves a few inches and stops or goes back up

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is lit and not blinking. The sensors must be pointed at one another to work properly. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

Chamberlain 1265 garage door opener, tried to

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit control'. Using a small screwdriver turn this control in the same direction as the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking may be necessary to get it just right.

Power shuts down when I try to close or open

Your motor may be working too hard anad ripping the reset button on the garage door,
Try increasing the power on the unit ( should be some type of dial.) or the door may be jamming up somewhere, Try disconnecting the opener from the door and see if it goes up easily, the door might need service

Craftsman garage door does not open all the way stops @12 inches

You most likely have a broken door spring. Release the door from the opener and try lifting it by hand. Look above the door for the springs.
