On the HP 1100's and the 6's, there is a design flaw that causes the separator to feed more than one sheet of paper. HP has released kits that you can install that fix the problem temporarily. Your best bet is getting rid of the top fed HP laserjets. They sucked and made HP the target of a class action lawsuit.

For a printer to work, the paper has to move through the printer. The route that paper follows through the printer is called the paper path. If the paper doesn't pick up (no pick) or something interferes with the paper path, nothing prints. If the paper is stuck in the path, you have a paper jam. Sometimes jammed paper in the printer can lead to the device that carries your ink cartridges back and forth in your printer to get stuck (carriage jam) as well. Sometimes the carriage can stop moving for other reasons.
The videos in the following playlists were created to help resolve these paper path issues. These videos are not short or entertaining but they are complete. They repeat steps (test print) so even novice users can follow these without having to refer back to instructions earlier in the video. The solutions in these videos are what works to solve paper path issues most of the time. Follow the steps completely. Sometimes people shortcut some of the solutions. Avoid shortcuts for accurate troubleshooting.
The steps for resolving paper path issues are specific to your printer. These playlists have videos for about many different models. Some of the videos end with a step that explains that the printer needs to be serviced. If your printer is still in warranty and you get to that step, contact HP for help. If your printer is out of warranty, open a new post in this forum and see if others have a non-conventional solution that will help. Also, Google is your friend offering non-HP out of warranty solutions for servicing/fixing a broken printer.
If the supply lights are not lit, then you may have a paper jam. Check the rear cover. Also sometimes paper jam lights come on even though the paper has not jammed, just misfed from the cassette. Please let me know any further details.
Recurring paper jams can be caused by broken parts, using too much paper in the in-tray, or parts (usually the rear door) not on all the way. This video explains how to fix a paper or carriage jam, but explains along the way the things to watch for. If you go through the steps in this video and you still get paper jammed, you may have a broken printer that needs to be replaced or repaired.
