    Thank you for your answer.
I just ordered the 512MB some hours before.
What I want to know is where the socket within the printer is, where i have to put the memory when i have it.
And especially how far do i have to "open" the printer (with screwdriver or other things) to be able to put the memory in.
    Regards
    Fritz

oh sorry, you wrote: "as for where it goes that will be in the manual". But i did not find any hint about memory upgrade in the user manual. Neither where would be the socket for the memory.

    Dell link to upgrade memory

web archive version of the manual

scroll to the bottom to download the file ( not sure if the images are included )

However if you are facing the printer with the control panel directly in front of you there is a panel on the left hand side half way up near the rear side that you should be able to take off and the memory cards are installed there.

Dell XPS 400 PC Desktop
Installing RAM on a desktop computer is of moderate difficulty for most non-technical people. Before beginning any memory upgrade, make sure the proper RAM has been purchased. The Dell XPS 400 requires DDR2 RAM (240-pin DIMM).

Preparing the Computer b> The computer must be unplugged before any work can be completed and the proper precautions must be taken, such as wearing an anti-static wristband. Also, replacing the RAM on a Dell machine could void its warranty. To install the new RAM, the case of the computer needs to be opened. Replacing the RAM b> The motherboard has four RAM slots. Each slot takes one stick of RAM (up to 1 GB per stick). The XPS 400 can utilize up to 4 GB of RAM. If adding RAM, put the new RAM in an empty slot. If replacing the RAM, take out the existing one and then put the new RAM into the machine. Important Notes b> While the Dell XPS 400 has four RAM slots, if only two sticks of RAM are to be used, they must be inserted into slots 1 and 3 or slots 2 and 4 for optimal performance. A single stick of RAM should be inserted into slot 1. Always put the largest ram module closest the CPU central processing unit.
Start your computer Wait for Windows to load. Click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" using right-click in the Explorer window. This will open "Systems Properties." Click on the "General" tab. Here you can view the physical memory installed on your computer. The amount indicated is the total RAM installed on your computer. RAM is usually 32 MB, 64 MB or 128 MB in older PC versions. Newer PCs are usually equipped with 256 MB, 512 MB or even higher RAM.
b>If you're not sure if a module is right for your system, use the Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules. First you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system. You should always ask for a guarantee on the compatibility before making any purchase and try to buy for working pairs if possible.

I have a 512 mb 667mhz sdram on D102Ggc2 board.now i decided to up grade memory. Can i upgrade system memory without lose this 512 mb.

Hi,
Yes you can. but make sure that you buy the exact same type of RAM stick that you have and put it in the other RAM slot so the Dual Channel feature will be active (dual channel makes data transmission/processing faster) and making your systems memory 1GB. However, your motherboard can utilize or handle up to 2GB or RAM so you can put also a 1GB RAM stick which will make your systems memory a total of 1.5GB (that will be the case if you really dont want to lose the 512MB that you currently have,
Hope this helps.

Where is the expansion slot for the RAM for ASUS Notebook A2400H?

The manual is incorrect. Memory is under keyboard. There is a small hole to the left of the right speaker. insert a paperclip vertically into the hole and apply a slight amount of pressure at the same time sliding the plastic section to the left. It should be obvious at this stage. then fold back keyboard. 2 memory slots are located under the plate near the middle of the unit. Specs say max of 2 x 512MB modules. they are PC2100 DDR266 200 pin SODIMM. If there is someone else reading this maybe they can tell me what the slot is for under the smaller plate to the right of the memory compartment.

Cheers.

Reg ram upgradation

Each memory slot on the C555NR can support a maximum of 1GB of RAM. There are actually 2 slots, but only one is easily accessible to you. By upgrading both the primary and secondary DIMMs, you could achieve a total of 2GB of memory but you would have to remove the 512mb chip that is already installed and replace it with 1GB (+1GB in the expansion slot as well.)

If you don't plan on taking the computer to a professional to be serviced, you will probably only want to upgrade the memory in the secondary slot located under the memory cover on the underside of the computer. It can handle a 1GB SODIMM.

FYI the memory is:
200 Pin DDR2-533 PC2-4200 SODIMM

Good luck!

Upgrade from 512MB to 1GB

The specs on the memory are correct, so you purchased the correct type of memory for this motherboard. If your getting no video when you power on with the 1gb stick, I would be willing to bet the 1gb stick is bad. Can you return it and try another stick?
