sorry for late reply-thanks again for continue to help me:

can not log on to my ip address, but ip adress is default gateway. how can it be that my WLA card (realink) says it is connected to router, but seemingly I can not receive "frames" from my router (netgear 3 year old modell).what does "frames received with CRC error mean?

thanks- do work currently with my laptop, no problems with router here, when connect desktop PC with router via cable also no problems to access internet, how do I reset modem and PC ?

  • Michael Rodriques May 11, 2010

It depends on the brand of the router. Most have a red reset button on the back. Press and hold it for 5 seconds to reset the router.

  • Michael Rodriques May 11, 2010

Sounds like your router may be what's giving you the issue. Try bypassing your router and connecting the PC directly to your computer. You'll have to reset your computer and modem after connecting. See if that works, and post reply back here. This will rule out a router issue.

Are you sure you are connected to your network?

    Start->run->cmd and type ipconfig

make sure the default gateway is your router address
Lets say it is and its 10.0.0.2, try to log into and check if your router is showing you as a client.

  • Michael Rodriques May 11, 2010

OK. Now from the computer click start...run and in the box type cmd. In the DOS box type ipconfig and respond back here with the IP address you get. Also, what is the make and model of the router.

  • Michael Rodriques May 11, 2010

Try this open start...run..type cmd in the box and hit enter. In the DOS box that pops up type the following commands.

1 - ping www.google.com Post the resposes you get back here.

2 - Ping 64.233.161.104 Post the resposes you get back here.

Post the info you get back here so we can further troubleshoot the issue.

Hello,

To reset the Modem all you have to do is to get a Paper Clip or any object that is like a paper clip then just turn your router to the place where the LAN cables are and just nearby you will see a small button that is abit hidden , so just press that and while pressing it for 5seconds, remove the power cable and plug it back while the clip is still being pressed in the reset button.

Remove that clip from there and you should be able to see that your power light on the router is blinking, wait till it get stable, then all you have to do is login with going to 192.168.1.1 then enter the default username and password which is either admin, admin, or root, password. or root, admin

Then just configure your router again and all shall be well.

THanks.
Hope this helped you.

Signal strength went from Good to Low

Either move the computer closer to the router or the router closer to the computer. You could also try connecting the usb adapter to a usb hub to remove any interference from the computer.

Cant get wifi unless I am a couple of inches from router. All other wifi devices work perfectly. I even downloaded the latest driver directly from Intel and problem still exists.

Having a wireless Internet signal in your home allows multiple devices to use the same Internet connection without having to run lengths of Ethernet cable to each device. Given that the wireless network is transmitted over the air, the consistency of your Internet connection depends on the strength of the wireless signal. If wireless signal strength is not strong enough to give you a consistent Internet connection, there are a few simple steps for finding the problem and improving your signal strength.

Reset all devices. The majority of Internet issues, including poor wireless signal strength, are very often solved by a simple power cycle of all the devices in the network. Locate the power cords of both your modem and your wireless router and remove them (if you use a modem/router combination, simply unplug the power to that device). Leave them unplugged for a full 30 seconds, plug them back in and restart your computer. When your computer fully reboots, check your wireless signal strength to see if it has improved. If it has not, further troubleshooting is required. Move your computer closer to your router, or your router closer to your computer. Wireless routers do not have unlimited range. One reason your computer may be getting a weak signal strength from your wireless network could be because your computer is simply outside of the router's range. Typically, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will install your modem in one specific location in the house and the modem will not work at other locations, so moving the modem or modem/router combination may not be a possibility. If this is the case, you may need to move the computer to a location that is within the range of the wireless router's broadcast. If you still get poor signal strength, your router may be experiencing a malfunction. Contact the technical support department of your router manufacturer. Router malfunctions often are not the result of a bad or broken router, but of something much simpler, such as the router's needing a firmware upgrade or an incorrect setting on the router's internal setup. If your router manufacturer is unable to improve your wireless signal strength, it may be time to purchase a new router. Purchase a new router. Wireless routers are priced in part based on how widely their wireless signal broadcasts (in other words, the more expensive the router you buy, the larger a wireless signal the router will broadcast). Included in the packaging of each wireless router is the approximated range, in square footage, of that router's wireless network. A good rule of thumb is to know the square footage of your house and buy a router that can accommodate that square footage. That way, as long as the router is functioning properly, you will have strong wireless signal strength throughout your entire home.

Computers have limited connection to linksys wrt54g although signal is full strength

Limited connectivity
If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.
Also try resetting the wireless router by turning off the power to the wireless router for a few minutes and the boot up your computers.

Losing internet connection

CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION
There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router. 1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up. 2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router. 3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). 4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

I have the router right by my PC, it appears connected but no signal strength at all (no bars) what is wrong?

try changing the wireless channel on the router and see if that makes any difference.

Open the setup page of the router.
Go to wireless tan and change the standard channel to 11. save the settings.

You can also try updating the drivers of the wireless adapter on your computer.
If your router is too old then you must upgrade the firmware on the router.

Acer 1690 intel 2200bg.wireless often, cannot get internet despite having "very good signal strength" and "status:connected"

Hi

If you have a good signal strength and the status shows connected then i would say you probably have some form of spyware, trojans or rootkit on the system.

I would take it to a reputable computer shop as although there is plenty of software out there which will remove this kind of stuff, it doesnt repair the damage that they do.
