What kind of resources are you pulling on the pc everyday? For example are you doing heavy writing to the drive everyday such as video editing, ripping etc and how much air flow is your pc getting. If the case gets too hot or warm for long periods of time it can cause the hard drive to fail quickly. Lastly check your power supply male sure its pputting out the proper voltage to the computer specifially the connection to the hard drive. If its not stable the nit will cause your hard drive to fail.

very well could be a motherboard problem. If you have another drive try using it as a slave see if it reads that way for quick diagnostic.

that is a sign that this hard drive is also failing.
please contact WD to RMA this hard drive back.
you can submit a complaint to them saying it is the 2nd drive that you receive that is going bad from them.
they may send you a different model or similar model.

My emachine wont boot it gos to salect safe mode our normal and wen u click one it shuts down and gos back to the select screen again

Bad news. Probably your hard drive has crapped out.
If you plan to replace the drive get a Seagate brand. They cost a little more than the Western Digital, but they last alot longer.

My Dell Lap Top needs a hard drive installed

any 2.5" ATA-6 (a.k.a. Ultra ATA) will work

Your laptop came with a:
Ultra ATA Hard Drive, 4200RPM hard drive

I suggest this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136129

But, Any 2.5" ATA-6...also known as ultra ATA, will suffice..........go with 5400 RPM speed drive.......I suggest either Western Digital or Seagate...as they are the most dependable brands of hard disc drives.

And to replace it, here is an online service manual to guide you:

There ya go!

Hello my hard drive quit working. It say it working properly but won;t show up on my computer can u help

Hello Klpook, Hi, 1. scan your PC with an antivirus software, if the action failed to work, 2. use another PC to check if your Hard drive is good. if the other PC failed to detect you hard drive. 3. Use Hard drive utilities, such as Disk manager for Western Digital to diagnose your HD. If by chance no positive work is done. Your drive is bad.

Western Digital Elements Hard Drive 1TB Stopped Working!?

Western digital drives are garbage, I was using western digital drives in customers pcs and they would often come back within a week that the new disk failed. This is unacceptable as my customers need there computers and its a bad reflection on me. Now i only use seagate or hitachi and I have never had a problem with either. I strongly urge anybody that reads this to avoid western digital at all costs.

WD 500 MyBook stopped spinning

Your options are very poor, unfortunately. You can pull the hard drive out of the MyBook case, and check the connections, and you can try it in another USB enclosure. I don't recommend opening the hard drive itself, although it is (very) remotely possible, IF you can find an exact duplicate of the drive model and firmware version.

Your best bet, perhaps your only choice, is to call a reputable data recovery service, one that can handle a non-spinning drive, and ask them about it. I believe costs run between $500 and $1000.

May I offer a little advice: (I do understand if you are not interested in preachy advice like this, so feel free to ignore it, for now)

1. All drives fail sooner or later, cheap or expensive. You cannot name a brand or drive model for which a few drives did not fail within the first month. And most models even if cheap have probably had a few drives last 5 years or more. Better brands and models may be more reliable, with fewer early failures, but... Western Digital is a decent brand, of average quality. Seagate drives are generally considered better, but they fail too.

2. Any data that has any importance to you MUST be backed up. A backup is a second copy of an original item, physically stored in a second location. If the data item has special or critical importance, it MUST be backed up a third time at least, in a remote location, on a CD or DVD or portable drive or flash, offsite at work or home, or with friend or relative, or even in a car trunk. A better choice is to use a remote backup service/tool such as Mozy or JungleDisk. They are inexpensive, convenient, light on resource usage, and use strong encryption. Also, check out TrueCrypt (free, with strong encryption) for local encrypted storage. But never ever store only one copy of anything of importance.
