sorry it took me so long to get back to you. i am not going to do anything to it but order the correct disks for it. thank you all for the advice and info.

No, that won't work. Dell OEM CD's cannot be run on non-dell systems. What is the condition of the system now?

Actually, even if the Dell branded XP system loaded, you are still going to have a problem when you go to Activate windows...

in order to locate the drivers though we will need the model number/board

I need to reinstall windows xp home edition i have the product code but no disk

I have used full install/ disk from other brands of computers (or other dell model numbers)to reinstall operation system (must be winxphome, dont worry about service pack, you can update). If you use any dell reinstallation cd, most likely you will not have to enter your key. If you use any other computer brand, or borrow someones xphome full install disk (not upgrade), then you will need to enter your key. Only problem of using for example emachine full install disk is that is will have emachine themes. Also you will likely need to down load other drivers. You are not lemited to to using reinstall cd for your model number. Good luck

Cant activate windows xp home edition

Hi

Try and see what the BSOD says , when it suddenly reboots. Press F8 until it gives you a menu , go to advanced options or something similar highlight don't reboot or restart automatically.

Can you start your PC in safe mode. Try a crack although I wouldn't recommend it.

You should be able to reinstall from another XP Home Edition OEM CD so if you know someone who has a computer which came with XP Home Edition preinstalled you should be able to use their Cd, you'll still have to download the drivers for your pc though.
