Give yourself enough headroom before clipping by preadjusting the recording volume control. Try recording the loudest passage and making note of what your VU meter is indicating. Adjust your volume control accordingly. Try to maintain a uniform distance from the microphone and use a windscreen. There is a great site at www.dancetech.com with links to other sites with all the info you will probably need. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a clock or bit depth issue. Verify what sampling rate and bit depth is coming from the USB interface, and make sure the laptop/Audacity is set for the same.

I am trying to record in multi track mode-want to know how to record for example vocals on track one then without erasing the vocals add for example harmony or guitar so i get two things on one track. At...

How multitrack recording works is assigning each recording to a different track. A way around this is to record the vocals to track one, then your harmony to track two. Save that as a single recording, or mixdown, then open that saved mixdown to track one. You may need to be connected to a computer to do this.

I use the same technique when using Cool Edit Pro (outdated, yes, but I've been using it for 4 years, and I know most of the ins and outs), especially on the guitar tracks, where for studio sound, you've gotta use 4 total tracks. Putting two tracks together frees up your processor, and uses less in the way of effects, as well.

Hope that helps!

I'm thinking of buying this microphone for recording vocals to a computer to produce a song, does it connect to a computer through the microphone jack?

No, it does not. A professional mic will not plug directly into a computer. A USB interface, such as the Shure X2u, would be needed.

Cannot record both mic and electric guitar in daw

Disagree with previous post. The GTrack is designed to record vocals and a mono insrtument at the same time. That's its main selling point. It should also allow monitoring of both the vocals and guitar alongside the playback from the computer. In your computer's Control Panel, go to sound preferences, select the usb microphone and click on advanced tab. It is likely yours is set up to record 1 channel at CD quality - this is how many ship for some reason. Set it to 2 Channels CD quality.
In Sonar, set your track input as USB Left for the vocals, and USB Right for your guitar.

How do you connect Audio Buddy to computer

You probably connect the Audio Buddy via a USB or firewire cable. I use both types of audio interfaces. Your mac will sense which bus has audio. Go to System Preferences panel and select sound. Select input. You should see your Audio Buddy listed if it is connected properly. You can set levels from this panel and test the device by looking at the two level meters. Speak into the mic; the level meters should move from left to right. Go to the output panel and chose your monitoring device. I prefer the built-in speakers, but you could also connect your monitor to the USB interface or even the Audio Buddy. If I need better quality monitoring I plug a mini cable into the earphone jack and use a desktop speaker. Don't try to use that headphone jack for anything but monitoring - the quality is not great. If the Audio Buddy software requires that you select an input source, always use USB, never line or built-in mic. Another way to capture audio from an Audio Buddy or similar device is to use Wiretap Studio Pro or Roxio CD Spin Doctor for audio capture. I use both.

Cannot record

Im having the same probz, got a Hp Pavilion Vista using mobile pre amp usb when i record using a condenser mic XLR nothing is picked up from the channels in Cubase or Nuendo. Im trying to record vocals but the Mic is not picked up and i cannot hear myself in the headphones and it wont transfere to cubase.

It has worked before when i had a desktop, but this only worked with a separate m-audio sound card inside the desktop and i plug in the output jax leads from the desktop (soundcard) to the m-audio usb pre amp

Is this why it is not working for the laptop do i need a Jax connection and where is this audacity

No sound through M-Audio preamp and condenser mic

Hi micoach
The condenser mic you are using requires phantom power for it to operate. Pay to check that that is turned on m-audio. Just to be sure.you say you can get sound off the m-audio headphone socket. Just need to check that. You will need to check that you have selected the device for recording from the preferences--audio I/O options menu within audacity. Perhaps check these things and get back to me here if you still have problems.I can go into more detail with you.
