Question about GE Refrigerators

Open Question

GE side by side refrigerator model tps24bp

The refrigerator door does not appear to be sealing properly when closed.  It takes very little effort to open the refrigerator door unlike the freezer side.  It used to take alot more effort to release the "vacuum" of the unit.

SOURCE: Freezer Door Popping Open

Look at the bottom of the freezer door, there is a little plastic stopper there. It may be worn out or broken. When you close the door this is what holds it there. Start there first.

SOURCE: refrigerator not keeping cool

Your coils could be clogged with debris. i had the same problem. You can go to home depot and get a specific brush that you can use to clean out the coils. They are either behind the fridge, or under the fridge. Do it on a regular basis, cause that can cause the compressor to burn out. I am not an expert, but that worked for me

SOURCE: freezer door wont seal and stay closed

Your pushing air from the fridge part over to the freezer door when you clos it,the only thing i can suggest is make sure that the seal (which is magnetic) is clean and not falling apart, inspect it all around the door, and when closing the door i would close it gently.

Hope this helped.Let me know by rating me or

Is there a kit to repair French Door from popping open GE model# PFS2251SBSS

Check to see if the door is warped or the hinges are not aligned. Also, does the door open easily or does it take a little effort to break the magnetic seal? If it open easy then the door seal could need replacing.

Jenn-Air side by side refrigerator, Model JRSD2490. Not staying cold enough

Larger=colder. Make sure that 1) your magnetic strip around the fridge door is sealing well. Even a small leaking area could make it difficult to keep cold, especially in warmer areas. Also, make sure there is nothing obstructing the door from closing completely and sealing properly. I had this same issue where one of the door shelves was unlatched a little and the door would close but not seal. Beyond that could be motor or more likely compressor or coolant leak. Good luck.

That will happen if you close the door too quickly or make sure the freezer door gasket is sealing properly.

Freezer door does not close properly

inspect the seal all the way around the door. check to make sure that it is not in a bind when you open and close the door. if it is you can try a little wd40 or silicone spray on the gasket and frame of the refrigerator where the gasket meets the frame. this will help it slide accros the frame better.

if the gasket is bound up and out of shape, you can heat it up with very hot water to straighten it.

make sure that you keep the gasket and the door facing clean. spillage from the use of the refrigerator/freezer can cause the gasket to stick especially at the bottom.

When we close the refrigerator door (side-by-side unit) the freezer door pops open slightly. The unit is about 14 months old and the seals look fine.

There is something not fully in place holding the door from closing completely. It doesn't take much. You should be able to feel slight resistance when opening if it is seated properly. The cavities are connected so when you close the door fast the air pressure moves from one to the other and pops the door open.

GE Profile freezer door problem

I wil let you know of things you can do to solve this.
This happens because the refrigerators of today are air tight, the fresh food door pushes the air into the cabinet as it closes and the air has no place to go but up the air vent into the freezer and "pops" open the freezer door. First thing is make sure the freezer door is capable of closing properly and is not rubbing or catching anywhere. I sometimes add a washer or 2 to the center hinge under the freezer door so it doesn't rub anything. Put a little Vaseline ( or food grade silicone lubricant ) on the hinge side of the seal. I then raise the front of the refrigerator so that the front of the refrigerator is a little higher than the back of the refrigerator. Never level a fridge with a level. Once you have the door closing properly and front slightly higher than the back...let the fresh food door close from 90 degrees on it's own and the freezer door may "pop" open a little but will close again on it's own...and stay closed once all is set up properly. We see this more often now and have no trouble with the door staying open again after setting up the refrigerator properly.

Hope this helps, Thanks Sea Breeze

Food and water freezes but ice cream is soft

Check the door gasket seal.
Open the door for a few seconds and then close.
Immediately open the door again, and, if sealing properly, it should take more pulling force to open the door.

it sounds as if the ice door is not closing properly. Check the little rubber door seal to see if it is sealing properly. If not try a hair dryer to soften it. Otherwise you have to buy a door kit.
