HP Officejet 6110 scanner carridge appears stuck

After a power failure the printer doesnt start. The scanner appears to be attempting to align itself and gets stuck moving backwards and forwards, making a clicking noise.  This has happened before and was resolved by removing the glass and giving the scanner a nudge. This time the problem is not resolved in this way and continues to move back and forth apparently trying to get itself aligned ?

Re: HP Officejet 6110 scanner carridge appears stuck

Unplug the power. Plug back in, while simultaneously holding hash (#) and (6) buttons, until S-reset is displayed (sometimes this can take like forever) but it is a documented HP mode.... Then set up machine using 1 key to confirm options and arrow keys to select options.

To enter another maintenance mode (fat lot of good that will do you), press and hold * and #, then press 1 and then 2 and then 3 (or 5) for a variety of different options, which include testing of the scan bed. This of course only works once the scan bed has initialised...

Or: take out all cartridges and close doors. Wait until it complains, or indicates a cartridge jam.

Re: HP Officejet 6110 scanner carridge appears stuck

1- With power off, open it back up put a little WD40 on the scanning rail ( do not drench it, preferably onto a towel and smear on) this is to make the rail smooth, then put lamp back into starting position put glass back ( it uses the bottom of the plastic ( white part) as a reference or it will give you a code.

2- if it's getting stuck in the same spot take a look carefully to see if something is out of position and if causing it to stall, that clicking noise is a gear trying to move and is skipping a step because it not moving the part, will eventually break the teeth of the gear if it keeps happenning.

If anyone have this problem try this:
1)turn on the printer
2)wait when the scanner carridge will be on the glass
3) turn off the printer and turn on again

thats worked for me

How do I solve the "scanner failure power off and on again" message for an h.p. 6110 officjet all-in-one printer/scanner/fax?

Hi Paul,

Scanner Failure usually results in Hardware Failure. However there is one step you can try. Try connecting the printer directly to wall outlet or any other power outlet and the issue should be resolved.

Changed cartridges, printer doesn't align or function

Something seems to be physically wrong in the mechanism.

Try the rolling wheels and the belt on which the cartridges run.

My printer wont print it keeps saying press enter to alein cartridge

I just noticed in the link to your forum item that additional text appears that does not appear in the item itself. It looks like you are getting a message telling you to press Enter to align your print carriage. This is a common step after you replace an ink cartridge. According to, here's what you are supposed to do:

"A message will appear in the front panel display requesting that the ink cartridges be aligned. Press Enter to start the cartridge alignment. Two pages will print. Following the instructions printed on the second page, place the first page on the scanner glass in the lower-right corner and then press Enter to finish aligning the cartridges. Remove the page from the scanner glass when complete".

The link to those instructions is as follows:

Replace the Print Cartridge

Just follow the instructions I posted above in italics and you should be good to go. Good luck.
