It sounds to me as if your HDD died on you, If you try to format the disk, does it allow you or not?

Use computer management to access and view drive status. Go to Seagate website and download Seatools, free.

Remove the HDD from the Bay, and install it in a PC, as an extra drive, then see if you can access it that way just to get all you data!

The disk is either damaged or the USB interface is damaged.
1) You could try opening the external case and connect the disk to your computer directly (Using IDE/S-ATA cables)
2) Format the HD and use data recovery software/service.

Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

It may be the interface that has failed but I suspect the hdd has failed.
Take the hdd out of the case and fit another drive. If that one is OK the hdd is dead. If it doesn't work, try a new usb to SATA interface.

I have problem with my hard drive can not open, when i put in computer it doesnot show on .

it seems its not formatted - if you have Windows, try this:
Start > control panel. Then Go to Administration Tools (or somethine like that, dont have windows in english) and find Computer Management icon. Run it. Now explore to Disc management - there you will see your USB HDD. Click on them with right mouse button and create new partition, etc..

Friend sent me a usb stick that I can't open

don't format it...most usb sticks actually have two partitions. That partition that is saying to scan or reformat is the partition that has the usb stick setup files. Open the icon "My Computer" and see if there is another drive listed in there....like drive "K" or something else. Usually once you click on not to format, another windown will open and ask what you want to do with this drive. If the other drive is listed, just click on it to open it and retrieve the files. If it isn't listed, try another usb port or reboot the computer and try again and make sure you have an internet connection to see if there is a driver that is needed.

Seagate FreeAgent 750GB ext HD - not recognized, bleeps fan noise

Hi,

You generally can't repair the case unless you have another one of the same model for spare parts. Also if you open the case you will void any warranty the drive and case had.

If you are ok with those two points, you can simply buy an empty SATA drive enclosure and pop the free agent apart, place the HDD into the new enclosure and try it on your computer. If this works you're done. However if it doesn't and you require the files from the drive you will be stuck paying for data recovery. There are several more economical options, the one I like best is Armor-IT. Small company in Canada, they do charge a diag fee which a lot of companies don't do but their prices are pretty reasonable for most drives.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Hi,
After plugging ur HDD, verify the device is detected or not in Device manager and Try Partitioning Again GUI mode (means in XP).. or follow the steps..

1- Go to Computer Management, Click Disk Management
2 - You will find you External HDD in the Right side
3 - Just Right Click the Drive, if it asks Initialize HDD, just Initialize and Create Partition as u like.
