System Software Missing on Garmin Nuvi 255W

Recently tried to upgrade maps on my Nuvi 255W and now all I get is System Software Missing

Hi,
Take a look at this site, http://www.garmin.be/missing.html Download and unzip the software, plug your garmin in the USB and start the updater.exe program. It gets you started again. Later on you can use the Webupdater to get possible newer software..
It worked for me and my Zumo550

    Excellent post! The fixes for a lot of models are listed there. I think the gps was low on power. I updated the nuvi 760 and it turned off after I disconnected it and turned it on again for the loader to run. It then had the message, System Software Missing". I had ruined my stepmother's gps while doing her a favor. I found this site the next day, and it got the gps working again. It looks like it puts your gps back to an older version of the firmware, but that's ok. I'll make sure I have a full charge and update it again with the web updater.

Easy Steps to Upgrade Garmin Nuvi 255w:

Firstly, Install the Updates manually.

Connect the USB cable to your pc and then to the Nuvi.

Launch The Garmin Express Software on your device.

Choose the Nuvi 255w from the available devices.

Hello,

Using the Garmin WebUpdater will update the operating software.

Map updates subscriptions are available as lifetime or onetime updates and are registered to the map that is installed on the Nuvi.

The Nuvi 255w is an older unit and is probably due to be replaced. Once the battery dies on the unit, it can not be replaced easily.

We have a garmin nuvi 255w. We need to know what is the latest map update. Our gps has "CN North America, NT 2010.30" version on it. Is ther something newer than this.
Maps for most GPS devices are updated several times a year. Your map is from 2010 and should be updated. You can go to the garmin site and pay to download and install upgraded maps or do a google search for map upgrades and you'll find some services offering lifetime upgrades for a few dollars more than the Garmin one time upgrade. I did this and have had no problems updating the maps on my Garmin Nuvi 250.

My Garmin nuvi 255W has frozen and when it does come on it keeps searching for a satelite signal and never puts up any maps anymore. Why is this?

How to fix the problem "system missing software" in a nuvi 255w
To fix this problem, what you have to do is to connect your gps receiver to your computer, then you back up your files onto your system, format the gps device then you restore your maps back on the gps and the software tor the unit. You can upgrade to the latest version of the systems software.
That will do the work. Hope this information helped you.

How do i update my Nuvi 255W garmin GPS
To update your nuvi, all you need to do is to connect your nuvi to an internet connected computer and the updates will show on the lower left of your computers screen, click on it and it will update it with the latest software version and maps.
You can also go to your nuvis website and search for latest updates. Just click on the map link and a list will pop up under the map link, select update maps if it is maps you want to update. It will ask you to choose your device from a list, after choosing your nuvi 255w then it will show you the latest maps for your gps, but you have to install its plug ins first.
That is how to update your gps.
