Related to DVD writer problem

I have the CD Rw previously  I borrow a sony DVD  RW with my friend to copy some material when I connect it to my Pc  in a same way as my CD RW is all things go fine after putting the new DVD disk in the drive it show RAW file format & 0bytes in FREE & USED space them i try to copy files with NERO(using DVD option) after completion of writing it shows zero byets on the disk and nothing happen I didn't Install any driver for it as my friends also not installed any driver for it and i am using XP Os can you help me out please to solve the problem
