Question about Korg X50 61 Key Synthesizer Keyboard

1 Answer

I plugged my korg 61 keys workstation directly on 220v instead of 110v, of course it is no longer working. what do I do?

The external power supply was not used when the incident happened, I suspect that since the synthetiser was connected directly to 220v, instead of 110v, that the power supply of the synthetiser may be affected.By the way I tried another adaptor without success.

    Any other idea?

Since your synthesizer uses an external 12v power supply your system should be OK, Replace the power supply with one rated at the following specs.
Power Supply: DC12V, 700mA (AC adapter)

I hope this helps.

The power distribution board likely blew , I doubt that any damage went beyond it, luckily there has been great advancement in built in surge protection.

Take the unit to a reputable electronics repair facility, it would definately be worth 1 or even 2 hundred buck if you consider the replacement cost. I dont know much about this particular system, if you can supply me with the exact model number I will see if a replacement board is avail.

If you have mediocre electronic skills you could dissassemble the unit and check the board itself. Often only a single circuit trace is burned before the regulator clamps the voltage protecting major componants, if you do the work yourself you are looking for a trace line which will likely be completely burned off of the back of the board(power distribution board). If you locate this, what you have to do is directly solder a jumper wire between the two burn points, making sire that any componants connecting to the trace are included in the connection.

110 will not damage it, just will not work, if built in power supply should say on the rating plate next to power input the voltage it is able to take, a lot of units are rated 110-240v some will have a small switch to change over from 110 to 240. Other than that, you will need to get a step up unit to supply 240 from 110 just a small transformer unit.

No, synths don't have a repeat feature like computer keyboards. You have to keep playing it.

Safest thing is to use a transformer. If it is only 35 watts, that is pretty small.

Often you can find a small "control transformer" that has dual primaries for 120/240 volts.

Connect it as an "Autoformer". In this connection you would only need one thaat would handle half the 35 watts... However, the smallest is probably 5 watts giving lots of capabilty. Google "autoformer" to see how to connect it. Essentially the primaries go in series and you take you 110 from one-half this combination.

The secondary of a control transformer used this way would NOT be used but just taped for insulation.

You might contact a heat and ventilation company as they may have one... even one that was removed for very low cost.

Low battery voltage issue

I just replaced mine. Your keyboard will not self-destruct. Go to Radio Shack and buy a CR2032 ($5 or so). Turn your TE over. Unscrew the hatch. You'll see the battery is in reachable distance. Pop it out. Put the new one in. That's all.
