Question about Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital Camera
I had been taking some photos of children outside. Shot some video of them and then gave the camera to my husband. He went to take some photos and found the camera LCD suddenly going white when pushing the button down to focus then take a picture. The picture comes out white though sometimes you can barely see the picture behind it. The LCD screen will streak vertically when there is a bright spot (i.e. lamp in the picture, sunny spot in the background). I have reset all settings, reformatted the SD card, put a second SD card in the camera and reformatted the card. A picture or two may come out normal after reformatting the card, but once there is a bright spot in the picture, the white comes back and covers the entire LCD screen the moment you push down the button halfway to focus before taking a photo. I appreciate any assistance you can lend. I've had the camera 3 months, never had this problem and can't find any reference to anyone who has. It hasn't been dropped or otherwise mishandled. Help!!!
The camera is defective. But as you've only had the camera three months it still is under warranty. Canon is usually very responsive to these type of problems and will bend over backwards to make things right (probably the most responsive of the camera companies).

That is typically a bad CCD sensor.
To start you can take out batteries for a couple of minutes , but I do not think that will solve the problem.
The CCD sensor is the optical device that captures light and generate the picture on a digital camera.
Whe it is faulty it must be replaced at a repair centre.
Canon covers the repair expenses for CCD sensor replacement , even when warranty is expired on several of their models.
Call manufacturer at the number listed on the user manual to get information, if your model is in Canon list you may have the repair done for free, otherwise get a quote on repair.
