Question about RCA Scenium M50WH187 50" HDTV
Tv is about 5 years old and is a rear projection with 3 bulbs. The light areas are the size of the black bars in 4x3 mode. When in 16x9 mode the side bar area is lighter than the middle of the screen. It is happening no matter what input i use with sattelite signal, dvd signal and over the air signal.
I take it that you have watched many hours of 4x3 video on this 16x9 TV . What you see is evidence of screen burn, like they used to warn about with the old "pong" type games with stationary objects. The 4x3 pattern is burned into the phosphor in the projection tubes. the area of the burned pattern is not as efficient as the unused areas that make up the 16x9. If you watch enough 16x9 it may even out somewhat, but will never be perfect. Replacing the tubes will fix it, but they're pricey, and you may be subject to it happening again, depending on your viewing habits.
