Whirpool washer - will not work. on/off control placed in any position except stop causes timer to come on, but nothing happens. top of agitator spins by hand freely in one direction only. Bottom is frozen.

If it also doesn't spin ,  you probably have a bad coupler.  This located between the motor and the transmission.  If it still spins you probably need to replace the agitator dogs.  These are located in the top of the agitator.  If you can turn the top of the agitator freely in both directions,  the dogs are worn out.

WHIRLPOOL TOP LOAD WASHER MAKING GRINDING NOISE FOR AGITATION

When you put the motor in did you replace the coupler between the motor and transmission? When fixing the agitator you need to get the agitator repair kit, It has seals, dogs, thrust plate, cam bearing and seals. The upper agitator is supposed to move only in one direction to get the clothes to move down towards the agitator. Do not overload machine. I have one of these and after 12 years I finally had to install this upper repair kit because the upper agitator quit moving. You may have an agitate cam that is going bad inside the transmission

MY WHIRLPOOL LAUNDRY MACHINE WILL NOT AGITATE

If it just fills and stops dead then its probably the door switch. If it fills and you hear the motor start and it makes a horrible noise then its probably the coupling between the motor and transmission. Theres also a slight chance its a stripped agitator spline

We have a Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II Washing Machine. Washer will fill with water, but when it tries to go to another cycle you just hear a loud rumbling noise and the basket will not spin.

Peace jjones16 ,
huuum At your service!

You have a Whirlpool Gold Ultimate Care II Washing Machine. And the washer will fill with water, but when it tries to go to another cycle you just hear a loud rumbling noise and the basket will not spin?
Correct?

So!

Sounds like the coupling connecting the transmission to the agitator is worn out!
If I were there hands on I could be definite.
But it sounds like you need this replaced!
Thank God it's not the transmission.
When a transmission goes out of warranty, it;s not worth putting good money into bad! They are just to expensive a repair!

Only a hands on laundry tech can make the diagnoses.
This time you should call service
Let me know what is the final results.
Please write me back.

How old is the washer??????????????

If the appliance is 10 years old or more you it may not be advisable to put good money into bad!
New appliances are so much more efficient today that they can save you a lot of money in energy!
Water,Electric and detergent! And put money back in your pocket!
The new appliance will pay for itself in only a few years!

Bless You,
huuum

Thank You

Will not agitate or spin, makes loud noise during those cycles

Sounds like coupling gears between transmission and motor... they did away with the belt and went direct drive with coupling gears. It can pump water out but nothing else. water pump is mounted to front of motor is why it will pump water out.
