Defconcl laptop combo lock does not have reset screw

What you want to do is just keep tension on the shackle, or the part of the lock that would open. With tension on it start at the opposite end and turn the numbers. You will notice that it will get "stuck" on a specific number. That's the last number in the combo. Turn the middle number till it sticks. Then the last. Tadaa! Hopethishelps

The cable lock should come with a small pronged key used to change the combo, if you lost the key you can try getting a replacement from HP.If not you will need to cut the cable and buy a new one.

if you look on top of the unit, you should see a small screw - remove that screw. now you will need a small stiff wire, punch in your original code and then take the wire and push down through the hole ( this will reset wheel pack ) -- now punch in your new code and then rotate door handle to the right. now try your new code several times to make sure it took and that should be it.
now I have seen some of these units that do not have the access hole in the top -- if this is the case then you will need to access the reset button from the back of the unit -- remove the lock from the door, now look at the back plate -- you should see 6 small philip head screws -- remove those screws and remove the plate. now look at the middle of the unit - you should see a long rectangular box unit ( this is the combo pack ), now on the top of the combo pack you will see a small lever, now from the front of the unit - press in your old code, turn the unit around and with a flat blade screw driver push down that little lever,, now push in your new code,, rotate the door handle to the right ,, test your new code several times and re-install unit,, and you are done.

if you have forgotten the combo the only way to get the lock to open is to ' progress ' the combo wheels. since it is only a 3 digit combo - this will take anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes.
start with 000 then 001 then 002 etc... all the way to 999 ( but you will get the combo before 999 is reached ). after the combo is found, with the latch open push the lever to the to open position and set the new combo that you want.

Hi, Try setting the lock to the original combination and see if it will move then. Also keep a can of spray lube handy (and a rag) to give it a good squirt and free up any rust inside. Good luck.

Set to old combo, open, turn collar at the right clockwise, set to new combo, turn collar counter-clockwise.

Pretty simple operation.

On the bottom of the laptop, there is only one screw that holds the module in place. Remove the correct screw, and pull out the old cd/rom. Now you might have to remove any mounting hardware that is on the old cd, and install it on the new dvd combo. Slip it back in the slot, replace the screw, and you are ready to rock and roll.

Now that was easy, wasn't it?

Try rotating locking device 180 degrees and hold it down and set combo to 0000, then let up on locking bar. That should clear the old combo. To reset, rotate the device 180 degrees and hold down while inserting your new 4 digit code and then release it.

The reset works when the current correct combination is set on the front. If you forgot the combination, you can go to the www.masterlock.com and download a PDF to request a combination from the factory to open it. It requires a notarized form & takes 6+ weeks. In the end, it is probably easier to buy a new one. When resetting the combo, I accidently scrambled it as I flipped it over. And did not know the combo. The reset button would not work. I did some guess work around the setting and got it to release again.
