Re: self cleaning hotpoint stove

Sometimes in self clean it can burn out the element.  Need to check the element with an ohm meter and see if it shows resistance.  If it shows open then the element is bad.  If it shows resistance then the element is ok.  Next see if you are getting 220 volts to the element when in bake mode.  If you are not getting 220 volts then the control is bad.

I put the oven on and after about 10 minutes I get a message on the stove with beeping saying F2

At the back of the oven the sensor wire connects to the erc wireing via a plug, cut out that plug, and hard wire the ends together, frequently that plugs connection is not tight enough, and will result in F2, if that does not fix it, replace the sensor.

I lifted the stove top of my hotpoint electric stove to clean under the burners and now I can not get it back in place

There are two metal brackets, thin ones, like little wires, one on each side, holding the stove top up. They are held in place by clicking toward you slightly when you life the stove top, push them back toward the wall slightly to release them.

Good Luck!

My older model electric hotpoint selfcleaing range, lower oven self cleaning function is not working. what could be wrong, maybe i didn't set a control knob correctly, don't have a maual for t

Back to the fifties! If the lower oven cooks normally, the heating element probably is OK. For self cleaning the normal temperature setting is bypassed and the heating element is set to a substantially higher level. Your oven may be unable to self clean because operation of the knob may not actually start the cycle. The thermostat could need replacing even though normal cooking is OK.

How long should I run the self cleaning on a HotPoint self cleaning oven. Its about 30 years old.

STOP... Please don't use that function on a stove that is this old. Is what I would like to say.... but I don't want to be an alarmist..
You see what the invoking of the "Self Clean" function does, is that it interlocks the doors, and heats the internal temperature up to an incredibly high temperature, far and above usual usage, this is to literally burn off anything.
Now what's wrong with that?. well usually even in the older modern ovens the Thermostat and or Thermistor and or the Door Interlocks, often fail, then or shortly thereafter rendering the stove up for a fix.
In a stove 30 years old, i would imagine all of those would eventuate? (Tongue in cheek) If the stove is in good condition, one should be Ok.
So if it were me, I dunno if I would risk it?. In saying this all, I guess the repairs that may have to be done, are NOT that major, nor too expensive, and IF these parts fail, then I guess they would maybe fail sooner or later anyway, but I know for a fact that the doing of this self clean, can be thwart with disaster.
I feel it is my duty to warn you of this eventuality, so that if you do proceed, then you are forearmed with the knowledge.
As for, the answer to the question, how long should one "Run" the self clean for. Well this is usually determined by the unit itself, you will know when it has finished, when, the door interlocks release and you are able to open the door. This can be up to 6 - 8 - 12 HOURS later in some case, (You would have to check your manual) I guess it takes quite a while to cool down from around 900 degrees!

Hotpoint RB747GJ electric stove. Extremely long preheat cycle

I went to one of my local appliance sales/service dealers and asked the question. They said it sounded like the baking element was starting to go, but would need to test it. They gave me the option of a service call or if I was handy and comfortable working with it, told me to cut the power at the circuit breaker and then remove the screws holding the element in place and bring it in to have the continuity tested. If the element tested bad, I would get a replacement element. When I removed the element, there was only one wire attached. The baking element tested fine and all I had to do was replace the broken wire connector. I had broken the wire connector when I lifted the element up to clean out the ash residue from the cleaning. it was easy to determine which wire went there since it was missing the connector. Total repair was less than $2 !

Need to replace heating element

We have a maytag stove and we cleaned our oven on the self clean cycle a week ago. I used the oven once since we cleaned it. today we went to use the oven again, and the oven will not heat and the broiler will not come on either....seems funny that both would quit working at the same time.....any suggestions....
