Corruped ipsw file

Tried to plug in my iPhone and update it and somehow the ipsw file was corrupted. How do I fix it?

    Were you trying to jailbreak the iPhone (or using any other tool, like QuickPwn) ?

Just follow these instructions and restore your touch.

Plug the usb cable into the Ipod and NOT into the computer.
Hold the Home Button down for 5 second (do not release it)
Then Press and hold the Power Button for approx 10 secs (count them out)
Your iPod will reboot.
Release the power button and continue holding the Home button for an additional 27secs.
You may see the screen go blank or not.
Plug the USB end into the computer with itunes open.
Your ipod will mount in recovery mode.
Restore it and Your all set.

If you are trying to jailbreak it, restore it with the firmware that you intend to do the jailbreak with.
when you restore, press shift and Restore at the same time and chose the firmware version from you computer.
I would suggest you use quickpwn to jailbreak your touch. It seems to be the most effective and relaible.

Every month or you can say frequently iOS gets updated to the new firmware which includes some new features, bug fixes or lags found in previous versions. Keeping your device updated is must to get access to awesome features and so here's a small and handy guide to all those newbies searching for how to update to the latest iOS version for your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Basically there are three ways to update they are,

  1. Via iTunes using Apple Update Center.
  2. Via iTunes using ipsw.
  3. OTA updates. (yet to release)
1. via iTunes using Apple Update Center

It's easy and pretty simple all you need is internet connection on your computer, iTunes and device connected to iTunes using dock cable.

Step One: Connect your device to iTunes.

Step Two: Open your device tab and you'll see the summary section.

Step Three: Over here, click on update button and you'll be connected to Apple's update center.

Step Four: Just accept (Agree) the license agreement and it will start downloading the software update.

Apple will download and install the firmware by itself, do not disconnect from internet or disconnect the device from the PC.
2. via iTunes using ipsw

This is a killer method, I personally use this one to update my iPod. It's easy and far more safe from internet disconnection accidents.

Note: This method does update your device but along with that does erase all the data since we do not update, we restore.

Step One: First of all you'll need to download the ipsw's of the firmware. I'll prefer to download from here and save it on your desktop.

Step Two: Connect your device to iTunes

Step Three: Open your device tab and you'll see the summary section

Step Four: Over here, press "SHIFT" key and click on "RESTORE" button without leaving the"SHIFT" key and you'll be asked for browsing the ipsw file, choose the downloaded ipsw file from your desktop.

Step Five: Now iTunes will start updating your device, no internet connection is needed here to download the update file. Only you will be asked for internet to verify the ipsw. That's it!

Congratulations, You have updated your device to latest version of iOS.
3. Over The Air (OTA) updates (yet to release)

This is a brand new feature from Apple brought in iOS 5, since iOS 5 is about to release no information regarding OTA Updates is available. In general, it means that your phone can update wirelessly without any PC over high speed connections like WiMax and 3G.

There is no such firmware version as 5.0, the latest version of firmware is 4.3.3,anyway if you want to upgrade your iphone, you need itunes software installed on your computer and a IPSW file for firmware.

download itunes software : iTUNES

firmware download : IPSW (prefer what firmware you wish)


Here is the procedure :
(Be sure to back up your data first because all files will be erase.)

1. Plug your iphone to the computer,some drivers will be install and wait until your phone recognized by your computer.

2. hold "shift" key then click restore, a firmware will be ask so locate the firmware file you download then tick ok. it will automatically do the process so just wait until it's done.

turn the iPhone off, connect the cable to the computer, but do not connect to the iphone. Hold the home button and connect the iPhone to the computer. iTunes will recognize it in recovery mode. (You must have ipsw file) Hold shift and click restore. now look for the ipsw file, choose that file, and itunes will do the rest.

Iphone 3G blocked after Mishap


Download redsn0w. Also, if you are talkin about holding the option key, then i'm assuming you have the ipsw file already. Jailbreak the phone using redsn0w, and then through Cydia (which will be on the iphone after jailbreak) get and install ultrasn0w. If you have any questions about detailed unlocking instructions, send me an email. And I'll go into more detail.

Here u can follow the steps

Step 1: Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of iTunes if you haven’t already. Download iTunes 8.2 from the link given below.
Step 2: Now connect your iPhone with your PC. You must connect it to a single usb port on the backside of your computer. Do not use any usb hub or the ports in the front as this could cause an error during update process.
Step 3: Start iTunes 8.2. Sync your iPhone with your PC so that iTunes backs-up all your important data including settings, apps, music, contacts and photos.
Step 4: You will now have to download a custom cooked firmware for your iPhone version (2G or 3G). I can’t post the download links for these files for the reasons you all know very well. Just Google “iPhone 2G Custom 3.0” (If you are using iPhone 2G) or “iPhone 3G Custom 3.0” (If you are using iPhone 3G) and use one of the torrent links to download the custom created .ipsw file.
Step 5: Once you have downloaded the required .ipsw file, Copy/Paste it into this location:
“C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\” (Windows 7)
“C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\” (Windows Vista)
“C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Update\” (Windows XP)
Step 6: Restart iTunes. You will now be prompted to install this firmware you just download. Just close this prompt dialog by clicking on “x” from the top right-most corner of the window.

Step 7: Now you will have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 3.0 that you just downloaded. Click on your phone from the sidebar in iTunes to get to this screen as shown in the screenshot below:

Now press and hold left “Shift” button on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your downloaded custom firmware 3.0. Select the downloaded .ipsw file and click on “Open”.
Step 8: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps some of which are highlighted below:

Don’t do anything silly at this point. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 3.0 on your iPhone. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, iPhone will restart automatically and you should now have a fully unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 2G. iPhone 3G on the hand will only be jailbroken, not unlocked. iPhone 3G users will have to wait for Dev-Team to release ultrasn0w on Cydia in order to unlock their phones.
Step 9: Once you are done with the unlocking and jailbreak process. You can now restore all your settings, apps, music, contacts and photos to the newly installed firmware version 3.0 by restoring the backup that you made in Step 3 from iTunes.

Update to the latest version of iTunes
To see if you have the latest version of iTunes, open iTunes and:

Restart your computer Simply restarting the computer can clear up certain issues that could prevent iPhone or iPod touch from being restored. After restarting, try restoring the device again in iTunes.
USB Troubleshooting Connect iPhone or iPod touch to a different USB port on your Mac or Windows PC. USB 2.0 ports that are built-in to the computer are preferred over a hub. If iPhone or iPod touch were connected to USB ports on the front of the computer, try connecting them to rear USB ports. After doing this, try to restore the device in iTunes.
If this fails, Restore on a different computer. If the issue is not resolved with the above steps, try to restore on a different computer. Ensure that the computer you are restoring on has USB 2.0 ports, the latest version of iTunes, and that you are connecting directly to the computer.
Advanced Steps
Make sure you have admin access

If your still having problems estore using a new user account Create a new user account on your computer and try to restore while logged in as the new user. iTunes will download a new version of the software restore file. After creating the new user, log in to that account and open iTunes and attempt to restore to see whether the issue persists in this new user.

Windows Vista and Windows XP
From the Start menu, choose Control Panel. Open User Accounts. Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process. Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu. Log in to the newly created user account.
When a restore issue is specific to a user, it is likely due to an unusable .ipsw file. The ".ipsw" files are what iTunes uses to restore your iPod or iPhone. If those files are unusable, then try deleting them so iTunes can download a new copy of them. Creating a new user will also cause new .ipsw restore files to be downloaded in the new user. You can find the ".ipsw" files in these locations:
Windows XP iPod touch: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates (If you don't see the Application Data folder, you may need to show hidden files by opening (My Computer) Click on Folder Options. in that window click on the view tab, and make sure that show hidden files is selected.
Windows Vista iPod touch: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates (If you don't see the AppData folder, you may need to show hidden files)
1. Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options. 2. Click the View tab. 3. Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK.

After removing and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes, try restoring iPhone or iPod touch again in the origonal user account.




As an added note, If running Microsoft Windows XP and the issue is resolved on another computer, but you continue to experience difficulties on your original computer, you may want to update or reinstall your Windows USB drivers and then try restoring iPhone or iPod touch again.
