Refrigerator section which is on the top is not cooling, however the lower freezer section is working and making ice. Fan in refrigerator section does not seem to be working. Maytag mod#mbf2254HEW

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. The fan should spin freely when you spin it. You can check the fan plug for voltage to see if it's getting power with the door switch pushed in. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it'll be the control.

This unit has an electronic speed control on the condensor fan which controls the cooling in the refrigerator unit. The electronic control failed which allowed all items to work as intended just without a high enough fan speed to cool the refer unit.

Top fridge not working

The Refrigerator receives all of its cold air from the freezer. There is a Fan that forces this air from the freezer into the Frig. If you don't hear the fan running or can feel airflow, then your fan is not working. Some newer units have electronic circuit boards that control fan operation. Sometimes the problem is the fan and other times the entire computer board needs replaced.

My Kenmore Trio refrigerator (#596.76502500) is not working. The temp is 76degrees. The freezer seems to be working fine. I have switched it off at the circuit breaker and restarted it after 10 min. The...

The fan that blows cold air from the freezer to cool the refrigerator is not working. If your a little handy with tools its an easy fix. Its located in the freezer. Open your freezer door take off the steel panel at the back of the inside of the freezer. After you remove the panel you will see the fan the blows the cold air up to the Frig. A quick trip to a local appliance store for a new fan with do the trick. Put in the new fan 100% fixed even better than new because the orginal part is defective Kenmore should have recalled them. I have the same frig and its been perfect since I repaced my failed fan.
