I have a picture, the lines are like notebook paper a bit wider at the bottom than the top.

Can you describe the lines, pattern, how many, is there a picture, or just lines?

The problem could be a broken solder joint or crack in the circuit board. Either of those conditions would respond to a slap on the side, not to fix just to tell what the problem is. It could also be interfrence, does it show using another channel or video source? An internal power supply failure like an open capacitor could cause this as well.

If it a collapsed vertical or fold over commonly it a single horizontal line on the center of your tv. This is a vertical IC fault. Could be loose connection on the board. Or the vertical IC itself is faulty. You can check also minor component within the circuit. Commonly you can still sounds from the program it is tune in.

If you are not inclined in electronics better to have it check by the expert.

This is a flyback issue and it would need to be replaced. Aslo check the horizontal IC's for faults.

Sounds as if you have a bad capacitor in the horizontal deflection or video circuitry. You can spot a bad capacitor in circuit with a ESR meter.Hope this helps.

Stationary horizontal lines

Thjeres a problem with the screen voltage driver voltage capacitor or the crt is going bad. have the shop test the b+ on the crt board first off . then remove the crt board and see if the voltage comes up. If it does the capaicitor is bad as it can take the load. But remeber theres extremly hi Voltage inside these sets so its never a good idea to try to do this your self unless you have the training to deal with HI Voltage and the proper saftey and test equipment. Good Luck
