TV buzzes on bright/white picure

We have a JVC D series TV that is about 6 years old. Lately, it has started to hums loudly whenever the picture is bright/white or has white printing on it, such as in ads. When I turn to the TV guide, although I can still hear the commercial or tv show that was on, because the picture changes to a dark one (our guide is dark colours)the hum stops immediately. It always occurs in the same commercials in the same places and stops immediately if we go to guide. I'd hate to toss this puppy but if it isn't cost effective to fix it .... Any ideas?

I guess checking the cable would be the first thing to try. That room was painted recently, maybe something got switched.

If it isn't the cables, it sounds expensive!

I checked the cables and I think they are all fine. What are the caps and can they or the tuner be replaced?

If so, is it a high cost thing?

Okay thanks, I thought it might mean capacitors. I will do some reading.

    thanks again.

This is due to waer and tear meaning the caps in the tuner are waering out you may want to check the cable as well but its far more then that.

That usually indicates a capacitor going out in the power section or flyback section of the board inside. Depending on your repair shop this can be a fairly cheap repair (or not). Get an estimate and know what a replacement tv is worth. Sometimes its cheaper to get a new one than repair the older tv. As well power problems can stress other parts so it might get fixed only to fail later.

TV Making a Loud Noise

this can happen with the flyback transformer's brightness which can be adjusted , also the power transformer can make humming or buzzing sounds which can't be adjusted , also this can happen with the picture tube or the CRT board failing , and sometimes chips with heat sinks or the IC's themselfs

My Sony tv CRT

If it's between 5-10 secs, that's normal. You will turn the tv on and hear a loud (buzz/hum) that is the picture tube firing up, once it's fired up, it has a few more seconds until your picture comes up fully. That is about 5-10 secs from pushing the power button.

If it's taking longer than that, your picture tube may be going out.

I had a 36XBR250 and it took about 10 secs to fire up and show a picture, and it was 5 1/2 years old.
